I just have one suggestion, instead of cutting two rugs why not use a flat woven rug & glue the cut outs on top of it? Way less work & you wouldn’t need a drop cloth as another diy-er had suggested. It looks amazing either way.

Both become pieces that you need to patch together to make one rug. I think what threw me is it looks like one is glued on top due to the height and/or texture of the two rugs.
