I’m American and I think most people do put their down comforter in a duvet. We certainly do; otherwise, I can’t imagine their dry cleaning bill to wash that down that often. So much prettier and easier to throw the duvet on the washer!!

I had the same thought – those comforters have to be in a duvet cover OR be underneath the (much larger) quilt, so as to be invisible. Maybe it’s a preference thing?

Also, I love the blend of percale sheets—look great and feel comfy without a lot of wrinkling!
Also, my son who is is military dentist had me read the book “Make Your Bed: Little Things That Can Change Your Life” by Admiral William McCraven. I’m German, and while we have this style, it always goes into duvet covers. To me, the bed like this looks unfinished and like someone forgot to put the covers over the bedding.
But then, bedding/blankets in duvet covers is the norm here, we don’t use separate and tucked in sheets at all – it’s flat/fitted sheet on the mattress, then duvet in a duvet cover to sleep under, sometimes an extra blanket on top in the winter for people who prefer to sleep in cold rooms.
