For my grandma’s 75th birthday her kids got her water color lessons and supplies. She fell in love and painted for almost 20 years before she passed. I am so grateful to have some of her originals. Truly shows you CAN teach an old dog new tricks

For me, inspiration comes in fits and starts and cannot be summoned on demand. Over the decades that I’ve been creating a home, I find that some rooms need to lie fallow for a time, resting in the basics, until a burst of inspiration comes to me – a new color captures my heart, a vase or a rug or a windowsill full of plants catch my eye, or yes, a painting or an object of great sentimental value. I’ve had some pretty amazing dreams too, where a design idea comes to me fully formed while I sleep. I think Pinterest has its place in the process of finding inspiration – I personally find that looking at rooms designed by other inspired people lead me not to copy their ideas but to embrace my own inspirations wholeheartedly.

I’m excited to see the nursery come to life; the backstory with the painting is so sweet and special. As for pinterest, I’ve found it to be a great tool for those (like me) who start with zero idea of what their style is. Through the act of pinning and then stepping back to look at the visual compilation of what caught my eye I was able to identify common themes of colors, textures, patterns, etc. I feel like I know myself a lot better from that exercise. Good luck with the rest of the design challenge!

Inspiration for me comes from artwork, thrift stores, antique stores, and the plant nursery. Sound familiar? Color, color, color! You can’t beat Mother Nature for that.

That’s a really good point about Pinterest/social media. I get the same feelings though I’d not realised it until you said it. The nursery is going to be rad!
