We just might need something like this as we redo all our wiring and lighting. In our house it's usually boyfriend who leaves all the lights on all the time. I'm all about saving energy (and cost) on lighting. Plus, parts of this house get very dark and I have a very overactive imagination.

Mandi.....My husband installed these over 20 years ago because I never turned off the lights! hands full of laundry, sewing projects, etc, etc....they are installed at the top of the cellar stairs, in my sewing room, the entrance to the workshop, in the powder room, and, a really great place, the garage (a blessing when you have a 130' driveway! The movement of the garage doors opening is all the movement needed to activate the lights! Solved lots of scoldings! Worth every dime! Happy Marriage!

You're the 3rd blog they've given this to.

I probably have 15 motion sensors inside and outside my house. What I learned, is not to put them in rooms where you're going to hold still. Studies, Offices, Bedrooms, etc., They go off to quickly and you 1) either end up waiving your arms like you want the airplane to land, or 2) when something moves and you're trying to sleep, for example, it goes on.

They also have timers on them, so you can set the bathroom for 10 minutes, but the shower for 15 -- or something like that. Mine are set that way for some time or another.

When I first got electricity in my house, I had the hall light put on a motion sensor. Previously to that, I just opened my cell phone to navigate through the construction. The 1st time I walked into the hall, the light went on, I had a heart attack, I threw my phone and screamed. I looked around to make certain there weren't any strangers in the house watching, grabbed my phone and told my electrician friend that there was too much light in my house. He had to come take this out. He laughed so hard I think he peed.

These things can save you a TON of money. I'm here to tell 'ya.

My husband is a light freak too! As a joke I went through the house and turned ALL the lights on just to watch him walk through the house, turn them off and then shake his head! He never said a word, but when he returned to the living room I looked up and said "Gotcha!" All he could do was laugh. I might have to purchase a few of these so I could win me a little more undying love :)

Funny! I was going to put one in my garage too mainly because I'm rarely going in or out without something in my hands so turning it on and off is kind of a pain.

I was also thinking about the hallway. That gets left on all the time too. Hmmm, there are a bunch of rooms around the house that might benefit from a little automation.
