You can build this DIY Platform Bed in literally 3 steps. Do you have a Saturday afternoon? Good, because you can make this bed and still have time for a leisurely stroll through Home Depot.

When I was designing Macie’s room, (and lets get real here, any bedroom) one of the nagging problems is that of the box spring/bedskirt. Its just not my favorite. So I decided that a DIY platform bed would be the perfect solution.

The was a little bit of criteria that it had to have. It had to be normal bed height, without using a box spring,  it had to be sturdy, and it had to be pretty. I had already finished the Macramé headboard, and felt like it needed something behind it other than the wall to make it feel more headboard-y and less wall hang-y. That is where the giant wall panel comes into play.

DIY Platform Bed Supplies:

(2) 4×8 pieces of premium plywood. I recommend using the 3/4” thick pieces.

(3) 8’ pieces of premium 1”x4” pine.

(5) Heavy Duty Top Plates (available at Home Depot)

(5) 15” Parsons Table Legs (available at Home Depot)

Cut List:

Please note these measurements are for a standard twin size bed.

Pro Tip: Have the plywood cut at Home Depot before you bring it home!

• Your first 4×8 sheet needs to be cut every 19 inches to make 5 pieces. This is for the headboard.
• Your second sheet needs to be cut to measure 78”x41”  (cut 18” off of the top and 6” of of the side.)  **If your twin bed is an XL you will need to cut your base piece to measure 82” and adjust all of the measurements accordingly
• Measure and cut your 1×4 pine to (2) at 41” and (2) at 80”

Building the Platform Bed

Step 1:  Attach your mounting plates

Measure an inch in from the edges of the platform piece. Attach one in each corner as well as the middle. Screw the legs on, and flip it over.

Step 2:  Attach the side boards onto the platform base.

Make sure that your boards are flush with the bottom edge. We used finishing nails to do this, but if you are putting a bed in a room where they might get stepped on I would use screws at least on each corner and in the middle.

Step 3: Attach the Headboard

Find the place that you are going to mount the headboard (in my case it was the center of the wall). Use a stud finder to mark where the studs are. Attach the pieces of wood to the wall using a nail gun. Start at the ceiling and move down.

By some miracle our boards fit perfectly, but if your ceilings are higher or lower you can add more or less at the bottom (that way it will be hidden by the bed!) Shhhhh under the bed secrets!! Mix up the order of the pieces so it looks uber custom, and not just like a giant piece of plywood on the wall.

(Yes, that would be 2 grown men standing on the bed, its really sturdy!)

And that’s it! The last step is to attach the platform to the wall, just use longer screws and L brackets on the underside and make sure you hit a stud.

I am still alive! (well barely. What day of the week is it?) The Hoard Sale was a MASSIVE success. Stay tuned for a post all about it,

Last week I shared my tip for getting a perfect paint job, so today I thought it would be fun to show you a project that got just that.

IKEA Rast dressers are utterly fantastic for a nightstand replacement. They are inexpensive ($34.99), small, and made out of solid wood. They were just what I needed for Macie’s Bedroom. But here is the thing. Sometimes you don’t want it to look like a Rast. Sometimes you want it to look a little nicer. Ya feel me?

After putting the dressers together the first thing that I did was putty all of the pre drilled holes and the screws. I like using the pink putty that dries white.

Pile it on nice and tall. Sort of like a wad of bubble gum. Don’t try and make it perfect at this point.

Make sure the your putty is completely dry before you start sanding.

To sand I used a 220 grit sanding sponge and a small circular motion.

Once everything is nice and smooth,  give you dresser a quick wipe down with a slightly damp cloth to get the dust off. (You can also use tack cloth, but lets be honest, who has that on hand at all times?)

Once it is time to paint, you will want to follow this tutorial to a T. It will give you a perfect finish.

Now for the REALLY fun part. Bring on the leather and brass!!

I stated by cutting a campaign shaped pull out of leather (you can upload this image into Design Space if you have a Cricut Explore and cut it with that, or you can print it off and trace it!)

The corner pieces and brass pulls are from Home Depot. To find them you will want to go down the aisle that has the pulls and knobs.

The brass corner brackets come in packs of 4,  you will need 3 packages per dresser.

The pulls can be found right by the hinges and brackets. They are called Brass Utility Pulls. You will need 3 of these puppies too.

Start by gluing your leather piece onto the drawer. I decided to move mine to the top of the drawer instead of putting it in the center. Make sure that it is centered and level.

Then hold your brass handle onto the leather and mark where the screws will go.

Using a small drill bit, drill pilot holes through the leather and into the wood. Then attach the pull.

You will want to drill pilot holes for the corner brackets as well, so that you don’t split the wood.

Everyone loves a good simple planter. Its just impossible not to. I thought it would be fun today to show you 3 different techniques (and chat about the good and bad of each) for paint dipped planters. *Spoiler alert, only one of them is actually dipped… You can check out this post to see a few sources for hanging planters.

First things first, you need something amazing to paint. I love these simple hanging terrariums from Target (couldn’t find them online but they do have them in store). The succulents don’t look incredibly fake (win) but the dirt is not going to be your friend. It is really dark and as faux looking as Heidi Montage. Insert the reason for the paint dipping project.

Technique #1 is the act of actually dipping it in paint.

The pro of doing this technique is you can you any color on the planet, and it is a great way to use paint that you already have on hand.

The con is that it is easy to get a little heavy handed and the dry time is much longer.

Fun tip is to use a straw over a bowl to let it drip dry.

Technique #2 involves painters tape, a paper towel, and a can of spray paint.

Start by stuffing the paper towel inside the opening of your terrarium. Don’t get all stuffing crazy, you just need to cover the hole not pack the fake succulent for a trip around the world.

Tape off the line that you want painted. Then cover the rest of the planter with tape, just to prevent overspray.

Pro for this technique is that you can paint higher on the planter without worrying about filling the hole with paint.

Con is that you need more supplies and it can be hard to find the exact color of paint you are jonesing for.

Technique #3 is a mix of both. (The process showed up a little bit better on a different project, but the idea is the same)

Start by putting your piece face down (a cup is a great way to balance something that is unbalanceable on it’s own)

Lightly spray the bottom of the piece. DO NOT get heavy handed my friends. You will end up with drips instead of a light ombre. Keep your paint nozzle and arm perpendicular to the bottom of the piece and move in a circle around the outside. Repeat a few times.

Let your piece dry completely. When it has dried take a soft cloth or some tissue paper and run it over the entire planter. This will take off any overspray dust, but leave the ombre finish.

Pro of this technique is that it looks freakin amazing. Con is that there is more room for operator error especially if you are an overzealous spray painter.

I strung the freshly updated planters on some jute rope and made it into a banner of sorts.

You guys, this tutorial is an easy one! Get excited for amazing lighting!!

This little hang out corner of Macie’s Bedroom was just itching for a really great statement light. Keeping with the laid back boho theme of the room I thought that a bunch of swaggy lights would be perfect. I was totally inspired by these halo lights that my girls over at A Beautiful Mess created last year. But of course like all things that inspire, its fun to make it your own. And wood and brass? Best combo ever.

To make this light you will need:

(1) Brass Socket Cup

(1) Brass Gas Cap

(1) Brass Tube

(1) Porcelain Socket

Cord

(1) Embroidery Hoop

Button Plug (unless you are hard wiring it)

Glue

FYI: You can find some of the supplies at Home Depot. The brass tube can be found in the plumbing section but the longest length that it comes in is 4”,  if you want something longer you need to order it from Grand Brass. You can also buy the light sockets and plug at HD.

If you are ordering from Grand Brass you will need to um…tread lightly? Their website is really hard to use, so I have linked everything that I have used in the supply list. If you venture off of the beaten path make sure that you check the measurements of everything before you hit purchase. Otherwise you will end up with a few things that don’t fit together. Like me. Whoopsie.

Start by taking the cap, pipe, cup, and socket end (the metal part of the socket)

Assemble them with the cap on one end, the socket on the other and the cup in the middle, with the open end facing the socket.

Thread your wire through the pipe.

Wire the white part of the socket.

Attach it to the metal part.

Wire your plug.

You can leave it like this and enjoy the crap out of it.

Or you can attach the halo (halo, halo.)

For this we are using the outer ring of the embroidery hoop (the one with the metal tabs)

Basically you are just going to glue the tabs to the brass pipe. To hold mine in place while the glue dried I wrapped it with a little piece of leather (of course it was leather), but you can be a patient soul and just hold it if you want.

Hang it up and let it dry (that way it will dry straight!)

Make 1, 5, or 32. It is amazing however you group them.

In Mace’s room, we had a light fixture that we removed and had a perfect spot to hardwire them. But if you don’t have that option it is still awesome!

You guys are in for a treat today. I am pretty sure that I have had 4 people guest post on Vintage Revivals in its entire existence. What can I say. I am a control freak. Sometimes there are just people that you meet that you instantly love everything about that make you want to shout from the rooftops. Jeran from Oleander and Palm is that girl for me. Jeran I love you and I dont care who knows it!! She has got FANTASTIC taste and is one of the sweetest people I have ever had the chance to meet. So without further adieu,  meet Jeran!

I’m so honored to be here on VR. How cool is this? Let’s start with, I’m a huge fan, because I am. Every time Mandi puts something together, I’m blown away. She knocks it out of the park every stink’n time. You know what I’m talking about, that’s why you are here. You too love her “out of the box”, thrifty thinking mind. This Christmas when I saw the Geometric Wreath tutorial, I ran (well drove really quickly) to Walmart to stock up on straws and wire. I had to have this wreath in my life. And it is, it’s in my living room, and it makes me happy every time I walk by it. Around Valentine’s Day I started playing around with trying to make a heart version. I tagged Mandi in my picture and she commented back right away. After making many, many versions, I think this is the best and easiest one to make. Anyways, to make a long story short, I’m helping to share how make a Himmeli style heart for your home. It’s soooo perfect in Macie’s Boho room.

So, there are lots of steps, but its really simpler to make then you think.

1. You are going to start with good old cocktail straws and a piece of wire (20 gauge) about 2 yard long. 12 of the straws you will cut in half and the others you will leave whole (except for one little guy).

2. Start by threading 3 small straws onto the end of the wire and twists the ends tight together to make a triangle.

3. Add 2 more small straws, make sure to pull them over the twisted ends of the wire.

4. Take those 2 straws that were just added and bend them into another triangle attached to the first triangle. Twist the end of the wire to hold the triangle shape

5. Thread the wire back through the last straw added.

6. Add another small straw to the tip of this triangle.

7. Use this last straw added to form a pyramid shape. Be sure to twist the end of the wire at the end of the join to hold the shape.

8. Add 2 more small straws to the tip of this pyramid shape.

9. Bend these 2 straws to make another triangle coming off of the pyramid.

10. Thread the wire back through the last straw added.

11. Add another small straw and attach it to form to back and back pyramid shapes.

12. Now add another 2 small straws and bend them to make another triangle shape.

13. Ok, stay with me…. thread the wire back through the last straw added so that it comes out at the point of the newly formed triangle. Now add one more small straw and close the shape to make structure that looks like 3 pyramid joined together. You are 1/2 way there!

14. Repeat steps 1-13 and make another tri-pyramid shape just like the first one. (Don’t hate me, you’re going to love this geometric heart when it’s done.)

15. Now the fun begins, your little heart is going to start to take shape. Woohoo, get excited! Ok, now place the two shapes side by side with the wire ends on the bottom, against the work surface, join the two shapes together with a small straw piece. From center back of one to the center back of the other.

16. Now you are going to need 6 full length straw and one the has about 1 cm (it’s my Canadian coming out, just less then 1/2″)  trimmed off.

17. Add 2 long straws to the wire.

18. Bend them to make a point for the bottom of the heart. Twist the wire in place to hold this shape.

19. Now, this might not happen to you, but I ran out of wire length. It’s an easy problem to fix, just twist another length of wire the the end and you are good to go. The join will be hidden inside the straws.

20. Thread the wire back through the last straw added so that the wire come out at the tip of the bottom of the heart.

21. Add another long straw and join it to the center of the first heart hump (yes, that is a technical term).

22. Now thread the wire through the short straw at right beside it so that it comes out at the center of the heart (right in the middle of the 2 heart humps).

23. Add the straw that is just slightly smaller to this center spot. Twist the end of the wire around the bottom tips of the other straws and then add another long straw and attach it to the top of the heart again. It’s a lot of up and down here, you can see it taking shape though.

24. Thread your wire through the small straw again so that you can add another long straw and attach it to the bottom point of the heart.

25. And FINALLY you can add the final long straw and attach it to the back of the heart! Yay, you did it! Trim your wires and pat yourself on the back. I’m so proud of you.

I painted one of mine copper (because copper anything is awesome). You can of course make your heart bigger or smaller, just follow the proportions and make the smaller straws half the size of the longer ones. Happy himmeli heart making!

I dont know if it was because I had just woken up, but I found this in my instagram feed this morning and thought it was extremely giggle worthy. (thanks for sharing Scout and Nimble!)

Now. If that didnt wake you up,  I bet this will:

Wowza right?! I didnt even know that they made spray paint in those colors.

For the entire length of the Macie’s Bedroom makeover I was  on a desk hunt. Finding something small and shallow and cute and not outrageously prices turned out to be quite the task. But in the 11th hour, this little ray of sunshine burst through the dreary clouds and right into my heart.

I was really interested in finding out what color it was originally (sometimes I am a bit of a furniture hippy) so instead of initially painting over it I decided to strip it.

Citristrip is my product of choice. It works well, and if you accidentally get some on your skin it doesnt feel like the fires of Hades are coming after you. The original finish was a light grayish blue (you can see it peeking out of the paint below). It wasnt what I was hoping for (a really light green) so I decided to paint it.

Painting metal is really simple, in fact most spray paints are formulated to work with metal. The one difference that I have found is that you have to let it cure for a lot longer than you let wood cure. If you move it too soon the paint can just scratch right off. That is not the funnest thing.

I painted the back with Krylon Copper Metallic (Michaels is the only place that I can find it in St. George) and the sides with Krylon Flat White.

How is that title for a spoiler alert? Every once in a while you get a project that seems so easy. But is like the Pandora’s box of swear words and frustration. Yes. This is one of those projects. Good news? I have had enough trial and error for the both of us.

I am pretty in love with these simple shelves in Macie’s Bedroom. They are not hard to install,  no tools required other than a drill.

Here are the supplies that you will need:

Shelving Brackets (I used these 12×8 ones from Home Depot)

Wood (I used 2×10’s)

Hex Screws (the kind with the point on the end) (2 per bracket for your studs):

Hex Bolts (the kind with the flat end) (2 per bracket for your shelves)

Cap Nuts (2 per bracket for your shelves)

We are using bolts and caps to hold the shelves on because we are mounting the brackets upside down. I would hate to use a screw and then have it strip because of the weight on the shelves. This is the safe way to do it.

Before we get started on the tutorial, let me tell you our fun little experience so you know what NOT to do. Arent you glad that you can learn from my mistakes?

When we were working on Macie’s room we were under a crazy fast deadline, so the thought process was under stress.

That is the only excuse I can come up with…

I measured the wall that the shelves would be living on and decided that I wanted them to be 30” wide. I was so pumped about this little project, I jumped into my car and headed to Home Depot. I bought the brackets, the screws and the wood. While I was there I had them cut the board into 30” pieces. You guys, I was smiling the ENTIRE time. I just kept thinking about your adorable faces and how much you were going to love this simple inexpensive project.

When I got home we realized that I hadnt figured out where the studs were on the wall. They were spaced 33” apart *palm to forehead. Fail #1.

So I went back to Home Depot and had them recut a piece into 35” sections. Got home, and it BARELY fit on the brackets. I hadnt factored anything in for an over hang. Such an idiot. Fail #2.

At this point my adorable and patient husband was not amused. So he decided to take matters into his own hands. He went to HD and bought a piece of wood and decided to cut it at home. That way we could measure 970 times before we cut it. Great idea in theory. He used my 16 yr old sister in law’s truck to pick it up. The board was 10 feet long, so to avoid a really large overhang he opened the sliding back window, and had the board resting on the tailgate and on the window seal while he got into the truck. Once inside he reached over and pulled the board forward so that more of it was inside the cab (can you see where this is going?)  This caused the other end to fall off of the tail gate, and like a teeter totter from Lucifer,  it made the end inside the cab pop up and crack the windshield.

Imagine his delight.

The good news is that we were able to get the shelves done. The bad news….well, you know…everything else.

Now that you know what not to do, lets go over the right way to do this.

Start by finding and marking your studs.

Decide on the width of your shelves (make sure to factor in the overhang!)

Attach your brackets to the wall. While you are doing this remember to add the thickness of your shelf + the amount of gapping that you need to get the shelf height that you want. Use a level. Eyeballing is not your friend.

When you are using such large screws, always drill a pilot hole so that you dont split your stud.

Once your brackets are in place,  center the wood underneath. Mark the holes that need to be drilled. Drill it with a bit that is the same size as your bolt.

Then using your bolts and cap nuts, attach them to the brackets.

Also it helps if you put a fern on them to get the full effect.

Very doable.

Think of all of the fun places that you can hang them! I might have another suggestion in Friday’s room reveal. Just sayin.

Happy Friday!!! Let’s get this party started (of course by party I mean the tutorials for Macie’s Boho Bedroom Makeover!)  If you are looking for sources for the items that are in the room check out this post.

Up first are the incredible wall mounted task lights that are on either side of Macie’s bed.

First things first, you need to get your happy self to Target. They have these really great stick lights that will make your life SO much more simple and you sort of need them to do this project….

Start by taking the light off of the base,  you will just have to loosen the screw, and it should come right off.

I decided to change out the cord because I am obsessed with cloth coil cord right now, but that is 1000% optional!

*If you decide to leave your cord on you will need to tape it off while you are painting!

Give it a few LIGHT coats with the color of your choice. I used Black in satin for mine. Let it dry completely before you manhandle it. Rewire it if you chose to change it, or take the tape off if you didnt.

Now pull out your wooden dowel and copper fittings.

You will need:

Super glue (DO NOT use Gorilla Glue for this. Trust me.)  I love this type from Loctite

Start by painting your dowels (or leaving them plain if you are a hippy and just love things natural.)

The assembly is simple folks. Just put the glue on the dowel before you put it into the elbow.

Let your glue set for the recommended time (usually around 24 hours) before you attach your light.

Once your light is on you can glue on the caps that will on the end of the dowels.

Mount them using pipe straps and enjoy the amazingness day and night!

Total cost? $23.00

I just wanted to update everyone on the Target Copycat situation.

First I need to say thank you for your support, you guys have blown me away with your love and concern. I think the term Target used was very devoted readers. You guys are amazing. That is all there is to it.

I did have a conference call with Target,  they were so nice and understanding. They will be doing a really fun Q&A on the Bullseye View blog in the next few weeks (I will be sure to let you know when that is live!) and we are thinking of some some ways that we can work together in the future! I am a firm believer that you should date a brand before you expect them to propose a lifelong commitment to you. So Target and I have had a little bit of an awkward first date, but I am really looking forward to seeing what kind of relationship I hope it can blossom into. Because I think we both like each other. Hopefully in the next while everyone on the playground will be singing “Vintage Revivals and Target sitting in a tree….”

As I was writing the reveal post for Macie’s bedroom overhaul, I realized just how many elements in the space were DIYed. I have tutorials for all of the projects that will be starting up tomorrow (yay!) but in the mean time, I would love to give you as many deets as possible.

Obviously the paint job was the first major change. I used Sherwin-Williams Emerald in Secret Garden for the ceiling (SW 6181) and Oakmoss for the doors (SW 6180). For the walls I used their Ultra White Base with 4 oz of white pigment added for coverage.

The gold paint that I used to stamp the wall is Sherwin-Williams Metallic Impressions. I was really impressed with how metallic it actually came out.

The tutorial for the leather safari sling bench is here, and the pom pom pillow is here. Would you believe that the llama pillow is made from a sweater I found at Target? The word art pictures are a few of the designs that Jamie and I have been working on and will be avaliable soon for the Cricut Explore!

Lets talk about the rug. It was the first element of the room and pretty much the only thing that wasnt DIYed. I found it on RugsUSA.com, they were running one of their crazy sales and I got it for $100. It is currently sold out but you can be added to a waitlist if you are really obsessed. This one from West Elm is similar.

The bed was a really really really (did I mention really?) simple build that I will be posting a tutorial of soon. The army green wool blanket is from Urban Renewal (a local consignment store), as is the desk chair and one of the pieces of art.

The hex mirror was a thrift store score at $8 that got a blast of white spray paint. The desk received a major facelift. Major. I cant wait for you guys to see the transformation!

Both calendars, the basket, the hanging succulent planters, and the woven wall hanging (ie rug) are from Target.

I am majorly obsessed with the task lamps that I upcycled from Target desk lamps. This is going to be the first tutorial out of the gate so that I can update everyone on the copycat situation, so watch for that tomorrow!

The picture on the left is thrifted and reframed from this beauty,  and trust me the blur from the camera is totally doing that frame some serious favors.

The ivory and gold box is from homegoods, and the brass crab is from a local consignment store, it is actually an ash tray! The top flips up. He is just such a cute fellow.

The tutorial for the Macrame headboard and plywood bed are on their way down the pipeline too. You guys will die when you see how simple the bed was to make.

The black and white pillows are iconically Ikea and the gold pillow is from Homegoods. The beige herringbone throw is from Target. It is kind of weird but they run really small, so I would buy the next size up. Apparently there is no vanity sizing on blankets!

The nightstands are Ikea RAST dressers (I mistankenly said Malm in my reveal post,  but can you keep all those swedish nonsense words straight?!)  I have found a secret to painting things perfectly smooth with no paint lines, no roller marks, nothing. I cant wait to spill!! I also have a tutorial for the burgandy and hot pink vase coming up, and you can find the tutorial for the planter here.

These shelves are amazingly simple, and might have a pretty hilarious story that goes along with them. The Himmeli heart tutorial is happening on the 17th, so mark your calendars! Globe, books, camera, were thrifted. The crystal skull is Halloween at Homegoods (I have been hording it for a long time!)  The cute ampersand art is made from a card that I scored at Target (like a greeting card!)  The wooden hand is from Michael’s (you can find it in the fine art section!)

PHEW. Is that it? If I have missed anything be sure to let me know and I will edit the post!

It was so fun seeing everyone’s reaction to the room! It has been done for a few months and I have looked at the pictures about 5 million times and had kind of gotten to the point where I wasnt even sure if I liked it any more (you know that feeling right?!). But seeing it through your eyes was exactly the boost that I needed so THANK YOU!

It’s HERE!! Today is the day that I FINALLY get to show off Macie’s bedroom overhaul! I am not good at keeping things secret and this doozie has been eating at me for months. The special occasion for a room makeover celebration? Well Sherwin-Williams National Painting Week of course! Last year I was assigned the color Pink and created Dylan’s Dream Room for my 4 year old daughter. This year my color was Green and I am pretty obsessed with how it turned out.

Last week I introduced you to my niece Macie. In short she is fantastic. Her bedroom? Um….welp, let’s just let the pictures speak for themselves.

What we have here is a room that has been transformed multiple times over the years. From an office, to a bedroom that all 4 of her younger siblings have enjoyed (hence the sharpie on the wall and the sticker residue on the door), to finally a room of her own.

Mace is a great kid and deserves this space to be wonderful.

So much better right!?

When I create a space I start with the feeling that I want to evoke when you walk into the room. The feeling that I repeatedly came back to for Macie’s room was Freedom. Close your eyes. Wait that wont work. Ok, keep your eyes open, but picture a sun-kissed girl at the beach,  she jumps into the back of an old army jeep and rides down a scenic two lane road laughing with her friends as the wind whips her hair around her face. Full of carefree light and the world at her fingertips. That kind of freedom.

The visual picture that I had in my mind while I was dreaming about this space was one that most of us have actually gone through. That moment when you are still at home, living with your parents, in a room that they originally decorated. Your thirst for new experiences and new thoughts, and finding out what makes you happy is something that pushes you unexplainably forward.

If you notice, the bones of the room have a very iconic 50’s vibe. The two tone doors, and the gold wood slice wall, even the blush nightstands, are polished and refined. Then like a wild flower in the middle of a manicured garden, all of the free spirited boho breathes life into it. I feel like this room visually describes what a teenager whose spirit cannot be contained feels like. It feels like a place where you can have the courage to hear your own voice. It feels like freedom.

Granted my teenage life was not that poetic, it consisted of expressing myself by singing NSYNC at the top of my lungs and skipping Spanish, but I mean, sort of the same thing…right?

We faced 3 main design culprits in the space.

1. The darkness. It was dark ya’ll. (Can I say ya’ll if I am from Utah?)  The taupe walls were not doing it any favors in that department. I painted the walls with my favorite white (Sherwin-Williams Ultra White Base with 4 oz of white pigment added for coverage.)

Dilemma #2. The carpet. Macie’s carpet is not bad. It is just a little harder to design around than a bare floor. Ripping the carpet out was a no-go and when you cant change something, the next best thing is avoidance right? So to immediately take your eyes off of the floor, I painted the ceiling with Sherwin-Williams Emerald in Secret Garden. It makes the ceiling look SO tall (it is 9 feet, so tall but not monstrous) and it is hands down my favorite dark olive green. So moody and perfect. I also put a really great rug down that I found for $99 on Rugs USA.

The nightstands are brass and leather campaign hacks on an Ikea Malm dressers (and I mean, of course they have leather,  do you know me at all?)

Can we just pause for a moment to kiss the macramé headboard on the mouth? It is everything that I dreamed of and totally doable. I wanted the macramé to be the star, but it needed a little bit of support to pull of such an amazing feat.

Love those wall mounted task lights? Guess what? They are SIMPLE. Like forehead slapping simple.

Mace needed a spot to get ready in the mornings. I hunted for days (which is a lot like months when you have 8 days to pull a room makeover together.)  Finally I found an old metal desk that had received a not-mandilicious paint job (I will show you soon). It got a quick overhaul with white and copper spray paint, and fit perfectly in the spot that it needed to live in.

Every room needs an amazing accent wall (can I get an amen?!)

Macie’s room was no exception. Guess what this wall treatment is made out of?

Wallpaper? Nope.

A stencil? Nada.

Painted by hand? Puleeze.

A custom stamp that I made with my Cricut Explore? Ding Ding Ding!

The gold metallic is metallic. It has so much shine that I had a really hard time capturing it without blowing out my picture.

The Tea Leaves art was inspired by my Gossip Girl binge in December. It is just so romantic. Chuck + Blair forever. I asked Jamie to design something and she came up with this beautiful piece. That girl is a genius.

The hanging lights are such a fun way to add a little bit of simple excitement to the corner. The DIY is really easy too. It is almost entirely made up from materials that can be sourced locally!

And of course we have to talk about the leather sling bench that was made from an upcycled leather sofa. It is just so good in here and solves our 3rd design dilemma. Having a place for friends to hang out. (Can you see the sheen from the gold paint?)

There are just so many fun details.
