Oh my goodness, where to begin!?

How about by saying thanks for all of the love on the living room reveal post?  You guys just make my entire life.

It is absolutely insane to me how these quick turnaround room makeovers always seem to work out.  Living in Southern Utah there are not a lot of resources for buying treasures.  I mean, the options are Target, Homegoods, and a few thrift/consignment stores. I don’t typically buy a lot of stuff online (something about seeing it in person and having a hard time remembering to ship things back if I don’t want them come to mind.)  But for this space I did a little more online shopping and I’m pretty happy about it!

The couch was found on Craigslist for $150 and reupholstered (a whole post about this process is coming this week).  In Utah there is a store called Downeast, they sell returns from really great brands like West Elm, PB, and Restoration Hardware. I don’t usually find a lot of stuff there, but a last minute trip landed me the coffee table and pendant light.  The coffee table (from WE) was a super great price (around $100) same goes for the light, it was just over $100.

The black leather side chairs are from a local consignment store called Urban Renewal.  It is the one place in town that really carefully curates the stuff that they sell, it is a great place for prints and loads of inspiration.  Normally their furniture is out of my price range but these super comfy guys were a huge score at $55 each. The off white rope pillow on the black chair is from Homegoods, they had a ton of different styles when I was last there.

The white and gray fringe pillow is made by Loloi.  I went to Vegas on the hunt for some fabric for a chair that I am reupholstering and found a couple of great pillows at Home Fabrics (this being one of them!) I have no idea where to send you guys to actually purchase it, some are sold on Urban Outfitters, but this one in particular is sold out on their site. 

The gray and red striped pillow is from CB2 (sold out).

The pink and red kilim pillow is from Urban Outfitters.  The giant cactus is a Peruvian Apple Cactus that I found at a local nursery for around $60.  The simple white planter is from Lowes.  Also, I just need to point out (because you can see it in this picture) when we bricked the wall we swapped out the regular outlet for one that has USB ports and it is AWESOME.

You can get all the dirty details on the Craigslist card catalog in this post.  The woven wall hanging was a consignment store find for around $30.  Lets just talk about the terra cotta vase for a second.  It is SO good.  And the best part is that its not actually terra cotta, it’s metal, so you don’t ever have to worry about that cute skinny arm breaking off.  The skeleton print was a happy accident that you can read about in this post.  Everything else was thrifted.

You can read all about the hanging light here, and how we rewired it here.  The family pictures.  Man I love those things so much.  We had them printed at Alphagraphics (if you are in St. George I HIGHLY recommend them, they are amazing to work with) I really wanted them printed on a canvas but with the room turnaround time we just couldn’t make it happen. 

The desk was a Homegoods find that you can read all about here (oh my gosh that post is so old!  Wahhhh! Dylan!  Be a little baby again!!!) I took out the colored drawer and moved the other one to the middle.  The rug was made with a paperclip.  You can find the tutorial for that one here.  Both planters are from Target (seafoam & white)

Love the marbled pillow from CB2.  The colors are a little brighter in real life than they seem online.

Tutorial for the copper shelves, and plexiglass calendar will be up on the blog soon!  I’m glad that you guys are as excited about those shelves as I am!  The large sisal rug is actually 2 of these guys from Target stitched together. When I originally ordered the patterned runner (WE clearance 70% off!) I was super excited, then when I got it, it looked so rinky dink in the entryway.  It needed to be twice as wide…oops.  So the sisals saved the day!  The rug is sold out, but they still have pillows with the same pattern on major clearance ($14.99!!!)

The little metal yellow wall pockets add some fun color and are $8.95!!  I feel like I need one on every surface of my life.  Including in my car.

I have to say, I feel like Home Depot is majorly stepping it up in the plant department lately.  They have so many great cacti and large succulents it makes my heart happy!

Most of the planters are from Target.  These little teeny dip bowls are the perfect size to pop a succulent into and they are only $1.99!

The slouchy linen basket is from Nate (I love him.) And just a heads up, there are a bunch of KILLER planters at Target in the garden section right now.

This is the second Loloi pillow that I found at Home Fabrics, but YAY! they sell them at UO and as a rug at West Elm!   Large woven basket is Nate, naturally.

All of the cactus prints will be available in the shop shortly! (until then there are lots of good ones!)

As I was writing the reveal post for Macie’s bedroom overhaul, I realized just how many elements in the space were DIYed. I have tutorials for all of the projects that will be starting up tomorrow (yay!) but in the mean time, I would love to give you as many deets as possible.

Obviously the paint job was the first major change. I used Sherwin-Williams Emerald in Secret Garden for the ceiling (SW 6181) and Oakmoss for the doors (SW 6180). For the walls I used their Ultra White Base with 4 oz of white pigment added for coverage.

The gold paint that I used to stamp the wall is Sherwin-Williams Metallic Impressions. I was really impressed with how metallic it actually came out.

The tutorial for the leather safari sling bench is here, and the pom pom pillow is here. Would you believe that the llama pillow is made from a sweater I found at Target? The word art pictures are a few of the designs that Jamie and I have been working on and will be avaliable soon for the Cricut Explore!

Lets talk about the rug. It was the first element of the room and pretty much the only thing that wasnt DIYed. I found it on RugsUSA.com, they were running one of their crazy sales and I got it for $100. It is currently sold out but you can be added to a waitlist if you are really obsessed. This one from West Elm is similar.

The bed was a really really really (did I mention really?) simple build that I will be posting a tutorial of soon. The army green wool blanket is from Urban Renewal (a local consignment store), as is the desk chair and one of the pieces of art.

The hex mirror was a thrift store score at $8 that got a blast of white spray paint. The desk received a major facelift. Major. I cant wait for you guys to see the transformation!

Both calendars, the basket, the hanging succulent planters, and the woven wall hanging (ie rug) are from Target.

I am majorly obsessed with the task lamps that I upcycled from Target desk lamps. This is going to be the first tutorial out of the gate so that I can update everyone on the copycat situation, so watch for that tomorrow!

The picture on the left is thrifted and reframed from this beauty,  and trust me the blur from the camera is totally doing that frame some serious favors.

The ivory and gold box is from homegoods, and the brass crab is from a local consignment store, it is actually an ash tray! The top flips up. He is just such a cute fellow.

The tutorial for the Macrame headboard and plywood bed are on their way down the pipeline too. You guys will die when you see how simple the bed was to make.

The black and white pillows are iconically Ikea and the gold pillow is from Homegoods. The beige herringbone throw is from Target. It is kind of weird but they run really small, so I would buy the next size up. Apparently there is no vanity sizing on blankets!

The nightstands are Ikea RAST dressers (I mistankenly said Malm in my reveal post,  but can you keep all those swedish nonsense words straight?!)  I have found a secret to painting things perfectly smooth with no paint lines, no roller marks, nothing. I cant wait to spill!! I also have a tutorial for the burgandy and hot pink vase coming up, and you can find the tutorial for the planter here.

These shelves are amazingly simple, and might have a pretty hilarious story that goes along with them. The Himmeli heart tutorial is happening on the 17th, so mark your calendars! Globe, books, camera, were thrifted. The crystal skull is Halloween at Homegoods (I have been hording it for a long time!)  The cute ampersand art is made from a card that I scored at Target (like a greeting card!)  The wooden hand is from Michael’s (you can find it in the fine art section!)

It was so fun seeing everyone’s reaction to the room! It has been done for a few months and I have looked at the pictures about 5 million times and had kind of gotten to the point where I wasnt even sure if I liked it any more (you know that feeling right?!). But seeing it through your eyes was exactly the boost that I needed so THANK YOU!

I am COMPLETELY overwhelmed with the response that Dylan’s room has received. Seriously, you guys rock my world. I have a whole slew of tutorials for everything from painting the floor, to the hex wall, to the headboard, to the pom pom blanket. I mean almost EVERYTHING in this room is a project, and the tutorials start tomorrow!! But now we get to chat about everything that isnt DIYed and some of them are a MUST buy.

Probably my favorite non-project in the room (and so many of yours according to the comments!) is the Kangaroo Pillow. When Dyl said that is what she wanted I was thinking “Fantastic, another project that is a necessity.” (You have to remember that I pulled this room together in a week and 1/2 so any project warranted that response in my head…) but then I got an email from one of my favorite readers. She had just started an etsy shop and make thread sketched pillows and really wanted to make a kangaroo pillow for Dylan. You know when are are reading something and you are like “Oh that is nice..” and then you get to the bottom of the email where the images are attached and you are like “OMGosh. These are INSANE!?!” That is exactly what happened

The Euro pillows are covered from a Target scarf that stole my heart. Have you ever thought to do that? Dont worry, I will teach you.

The tutorial for the pom pom blanket is coming soon too. I love how over the top it is,  its the perfect topper to the simple white duvet.

The bird art is from Urban Renewal and really similar to the feather art that I used in the Emerald Room Makeover that I did a couple of months ago for Studio 5.

I tried a few different rugs in the room and originally thought I needed a sisal to balance out the walls and the bright colors, but it was just too boring. I found this black and white flat woven rug at Homegoods for $49.99. The black grounds the room and gives it just a little more maturity. And the best part is that because its flat woven it is the same on both sides…which means it can be flipped if necessary…pretty sure that will happen.

The standing brass floor lamp was a $5.00 consignment store score. You know when you spot something and people just dont see the awesomeness of it and you happily skip away hoping they dont realize the error of their ways and follow you home? Yes, that.

The little goldenrod ottoman was a thrift store score from a few months ago (I think it was $7.00) it is in perfect condition, and fills that little space.

The white and wood modern dresser is a roadkill rescue that I refinished here.

The little industrial art desk and the huge industrial shelf are from the same yard sale. The shelf was $35 and the desk was $10. And the good news for you? I found a couple of other pieces there that I will be selling at the Hoard Sale! Happy happy joy joy!!

The hot pink and natural woven birdseye basket ($16.99), the gray wool rug ($29.99) and the wooden tray ($14.99) that holds Dylan’s colored pencils and markers are all from Homegoods.

All of the cute art supplies like the water colors and gem shaped chalk are the Kid Made Modern art line that is new at Target. The quality is so amazing and they are so pretty to look at!

The copper lidded canisters are from Homegoods, and let me tell you, I wanted to buy 30 because they are my favorite.

The tutorial for the copper coat hangers is coming soon too.

Without the Fiddle Leaf Ficus that entire side of the room would be missing something. Houseplants add so much life to a space. Look at your favorite magazine,  I can guarantee that there is a living plant somewhere in each of those spaces. So if you can pin point what is missing in your room try a plant! This one was $99.00 from Lowes. I love buying plants there because they have a 1 year guarantee, so if you have a black thumb you can switch it out for a new one.

Is there anything better in this world than a friend who understands you? Last week Miss All Things Thrifty and I had a project day. I showed up in my plaid pj’s from christmas 9 years ago and a DIYers signature no look messy bun. We solved the worlds problems, ate pizza, and planned planned planned. Then living in a smallish town, one thing lead to another and we found ourselves in a VERY uncomfortable situation.

Actually it was probably more uncomfortable for the other people shopping at Homegoods, considering our outfits.

You guys know how much I love this store,  it’s the hunt. I love the hunt.

So back to the story. We were walking and I was looking at something when Brooke comes up and says. “They have the most Mandilicious desk!” I broke out into a full sprint, because when something is described as Mandilicious by your BFF you can bet your hoard that it DOES NOT get better than that.

I was INSTANTLY obsessed.

So I instagramed/FBed a pic and walked the store to kill time until the comments started coming in. Because I really do care what you guys have to say! (well usually, but we will get to that in a second.)

There was probably a 90/10 split for those against the desk. And I was SUPER surprised! (You guys are usually such enablers!)  This desk was awesome. So I came to the conclusion that it was my picture, that you guys couldn’t tell how great it was.

And I bought it.

And I took it home. And guess what?

It has a perfect spot.

Remember this post I just shared with you about that awkward space in my super long living room?  Well I filled it with a small white chest and map, and it seemed fine. Until THE DESK moved in. Then I could see just how wrong I was about that little chest.

So I wanted to share how much this sweet desk has completed that lonely corner.

I had hung the industrial light to photograph it for my giveaway post and I just love it, so now I am on the hunt for something to put there.

So could I have made this desk? Probably

Could I have thrifted for the next 6 months to find something with the same vibe? Probably.

Would I have died without it? Probably. Oh wait. Probably not.

But I love it.

And sometimes you have to break your own rules.

The chevron shutters (which are still not 100% finished but can be seen here) motivated me to take our boring entryway and make it something a little more…Mandilicous?

I picked up the rug at Homegoods for $19.99. The colors are so fun and summery and because its flat woven (as opposed to having some sort of pile) it is really durable. I am interested to see how it washes over time, if the colors fade in a good way or in a not good way. I know that bunches of you bought these type of rugs so I am interested to know what your experience is!

The large white pot and yellow garden stool are also from Homegoods (around $50 each) I love the punchy-ness of the yellow, it makes me smile!!

The flower is called Blue Nile and I got it from Lowes ($15.00). The best part? It has a one year warranty, so the fact that it was looking a little droopy when I got back from being out of town for 2 weeks gives me a little piece of mind if she doesn’t perk up.

I still need something awesome for the door, but I am coming up a little blank, any suggestions?

Guys!! I am sorry I have been a little MIA this last week,  you will totally understand why shortly. How is that for cryptic?

I wanted to pop in and share with you my rug choice and the giveaway winner!

I would say that the votes for the rugs were pretty evenly split so a third of you know me SOOOOO well. As for the other 2/3…so disappointing. Just kidding,   I would have taken any of the rugs so you know me pretty dang well too!

AZTEC CHEVRON FOR LIFE!

So lets chat about this awesome rug for a minute so you can understand why I bought it.

Go with me on this one.

I walk into HomeGoods and see it on the far wall. And I was like  “OH FETCHIN CRAPBALLS CRAP. Do I run? Do I remain composed? Do I pray?” So I did my best to do all 3, but you know what it like when you see something awesome and *possibly* pray that everyone around it goes temporarily blind to up your chances of scoring the sweet find.

Don’t tell me you have never prayed for temporary blindness. Cause you and I both know that is a lie.

1. Its REEEEEDICULOUSLY beautiful. I don’t have any black in my house at all (because I usually prefer dark gray) but I love the high contrast black and white.

2. There are a few elements in the room that are major color expenses (meaning they are mucho colorful) and I needed something that was colorless.

3. HELLO ITS AZTEC CHEVRON! How perfect is that for my Santa Fe Brothel theme?!? FREAKIN PERFECT that’s how.

4. It was $99…and its reversible. So basically it was $50.00. Which is exactly how I explained it to my hubs.

I swore to myself up and down that I was NOT going to buy another chair that wasn’t part of a set. Well guess what? I lied. Technically I only lied twice since one of these chairs was free, so that makes it sort of ok right?

Having a few great chairs is the best way that I know of to make a room. It’s the perfect way to add some interest to the space without having to invest major money for a funky couch.

This first one is one that I just couldn’t pass up. It was $35 at the DI (Utah’s version of Goodwill). It’s a really deep teal (if you cant tell from the pictures) and is in really great condition. The leather is reallllly thick and heavy. Plus its TEAL! I mean sheesh, there is pretty much nothing I am obsessed with more right now than colored leather.

I got this sweet chair for free from my SIL. My MIL had bought it a few years ago from the DI (what can I say, thrifting runs deep in this family!)   I LOVE the mid century style, and it is SO comfortable.

The one super bummer aspect is that the leather on the back is in not great shape. I actually think that when I am ready, I will take it to an upholsterer and see if he can match the leather on the front because its in great shape.

And last but not least check out this tufted beauty.

I bought this way back when I was working on Hailee’s Living Room. I wish that the velvet wasn’t in such craphole condition because I love the color to death.

Oh and it was only $10.00.

To say that I was overwhelmed with the response to the question of starting a club would be the understatement of the year! You all are amazing. The End.

So are you ready to hear about this little design club?! Introducing:

It’s the FFA! (No cow jokes allowed) Don’t you LOVE the logo?! Lara designed it for me, I love that talented girl.

I want this club to be a place that pushes us outside our comfort zones, somewhere to build friendships, and find inspiration.

We are going to have different “challenges” every other week and linky parties to show off all of our bravery. Some of the challenges are going to be theme or color based, some are going to be project based and some are going to be internally based.
