Its June! What the freak man?! Moving on, I’m so excited to finally be able to share this tutorial with you guys!
Here is a little teaser of the full episode that is over on The Design Network:
I know I say it all the time, but this project is SO simple guys.
Here is what you’ll need to make your own:
24’ of 3/4” copper pipe
(12) copper elbows
(12) copper T’s
(6) copper straps
(1) 2×4’ sheet of plywood (it comes precut in this size at Home Depot!)
(1) grommet kit
Clear Epoxy
13’ of cotton belting
Pipe Cutter
Start by cutting your pipe as follows:
Cut your belting to 24” and follow the instructions on the video to set your grommets.
Once you have your belting ready and your copper cut its time to start assembly.
This is how your pieces will fit together:
Like I said in the video, I always dry fit everything, just to make sure that it looks the way I want. Once you’ve done that you can start epoxying things together (just remember to add your slings as you are assembling!)
To finish the top of the table I used my favorite clear coat. Varathane’s Triple Thick.
Spread a nice thick coat and let it dry!
Then attach your table top to the base with pipe straps.
Tada! Wouldnt this be the cutest bench at the end of your bed too?
I love this thing! I’m gonna make it for my front room!
Thank you for this . I will put this on my entrée de garage. I will make this
Super fun! I asked about Triple Thick poly at the other big box home store this past weekend. The old guy in paint proceeded to tell me what a terrible idea it was to apply poly that thick. “Where did you hear about that, Twitter?” I trust your opinion of it far more than his! Now I know to look for it at Home Depot. Thanks.
I made it and it’s gorgeous, but the edges are hard and sharp. Any ideas on how to soften them? We love putting our feet up, but the edges dig deep into our calves. 🙁
Hey Renee! You can try sanding them with a sander, I would use 150 grit paper and go at it until they are rounded enough!

Thank you!!
Hey Mandi & Renee~ Aprox how much did it cost to build this table? for the pipe and slings/grommets.. Wondering if it will fit our budget for a little cabin we are updating.
You’re awesome! I love you’re creative DIY projects!
Hey! I really hope you read this message. I want to make this table as a Christmas present to myself this year. I went to the hardware store to priceout the copper pipe and they all have a red or blue marker stripe down them. How do I clean this off safely? Also, I’m new to using copper. Does it tarnish easily? How often would I need to clean or polish the copper on this table? Or can I spray some kind of clear coating over it to protect it? I LOVE your blog and all of your designs! Thank you Mandi!
