Once upon a time (Sunday night) I was prepping to leave for Salt Lake on Monday afternoon. As I was running down the list of things I needed to do, one of them being staging and photographing Ivie’s new desk (you guys will see it in about a week!) So I am thinking and thinking about how to make the photos beautiful and the thought hits me. Hard. So I called my MIL and she loved it, which means I had 5 hours to get this entire thing done. And guess what? I did it in 3. BOOM.
I wanted the triangles to look old and imperfect. My original idea was to hand paint them but it was taking FOR.EV.UR. so I went back to the drawing board and came up with a stamp!
To make your own all you need is a triangular piece of wood, a staple gun, and an old sweatshirt. (Mine was Gap circa 1999 if you wanted to know….)
Cut a piece out of your sweatshirt and staple it to your wood triangle. Its good to have it all bunchy in the back so you have something to hold on to. Make sure that its nice and smooth on the front. That is one hot triangle.
The paint that I used is Duration by Sherwin-Williams in Firework. Pour some paint onto a plate that is large enough for the triangle to lay flat. (Don’t use a paint pan because you will get a bunch of dots on your finished triangle!) After you dip the stamp in your paint rub it off onto a piece of paper to spread the paint around and thin it out.
If you want to get all measure-y go for it. I however did not. Don’t forget that this is supposed to look handmade. And perfection would ruin the spirit of this pattern.
The best tool for the job to make sure your vertical lines are straight is a laser level (you can buy them for around $15)
Line up your level and then stamp so that your triangle point is in the middle of the laser.
Then just go to town!
To space my lines I just made sure that the tips of the triangles were 3 fingers apart.
This project went EXTREMELY fast and I love how it turned out!!

Amazing!! How do you come up with this stuff?! I would never think of painting a faux bois floor nevermind go all tribal/axtec-ee on the wall. Crazy pattern but I think it works. I can’t wait to see the rest of the room. Also, I’ve been on holidays for two weeks, went all unplugged other than the occassionally stuck-in-walmart-can’t-find-you-anywhere necessary text, so now I have to read all your posts. I just read the craft wars post and realized that I forgot to watch and then remembered that I PVR’d it before I left. Or so i thought. just checked the pvr and it’s not there. What the freak??!! Anywho, I’ll find it online or somewhere and watch it to see you go all crazy crafty. Lastly, and i don’t know how i’m just finding this out now but NATE GOT CANCELLED!!!!! Well that is just unacceptable. Now there is truly nothing good to watch during the day.
