I feel like with the birth of shows like Trading Spaces the regular home owner was empowered to a level of design that they never had before. One thing that we learned from cute Genevieve was all about Focal Walls, granted at the time they were all red…but that is beside the point.
When I started VR one of the first projects I did was stencil the wall behind my tv. PLEASE don’t laugh too hard at the quality of this photo. Its embarrasing enough. And if you want a good laugh you should go back and read the post. My how my writing has improved!
I sort of thought that the focal wall should be the wall that you look at most…and in our house that would be the TV wall. What, don’t judge me.
Then the wall changed to this yellow stenciled treasure on my first encounter with a real stencil.
Because of my need to constantly change things you may remember that my living room is getting an overhaul. I no longer want this wall to be the focal. It is not the most important wall in the room in my heart so, I had to ask it to step down as the Shining Star.
A quick coat of Sherwin-Williams Super Paint in Pure White has taken me back to square one, and I must say that I love it.
So what do you think?
Did you notice that Vicki got a makeover too? Next week I will share the tutorial for stripping furniture with a heat gun.
Love Your Guts, Mandi
Oh my goodness! I love the new look! You can totally see your “real style” in it!!!!!
Vicki looks ah-maz-ing without the paint. 🙂
Much more easy on the eyes! I love it!
Love the white wall. Perfect. Hugs, Marty
So clean and fresh! Great work!
Vicki is an awesome when she’s nekkid.
Did you strip the paint and add stain? Which paint stripper do you use? How much time did you set aside to complete? Ah! Sorry for all the questions. I’m thinking about doing the same thing to one of my pieces of furniture but it just seems like the whole process would be a bear! Thanks in advance for the pointers!
I love the white wall! And Vicki looks so beautiful 🙂
it looks great! i’m glad white is back. that way I can pretend I meant to leave my walls white, and not just that I am lazy. I would love to know how you stripped that so cleanly. I am stripping an old door and (mid-process) it looks like crap right now. i could use some advice.
Love it! I love a good white wall!
looks awesome!
It looks great- very clean looking now with the white and Vicki really pops against it!
I am OBSESSED with that console! It is everything I ever wanted in a piece of furniture hehe.
Vicki looks awesome!! It’s not much of a focal wall since the only thing to look at is the tv. Not a fan of the white walls with no personality but if you like it that’s all that matters. I hope the new stencil you’re working on doesn’t cause seizures and motion sickness like the 1st two 😉
Man is the transformation awesome!! Personally I think white walls are under used… because if done correctly they provide the perfect backdrop to showcase treasures! And Vicki is definitely that! The area is so clean and uncluttered, it just makes the T.V. recede and places the emphasis on the decor and the lovely console, yep Miss Vicki now rocks!!
Can’t wait to see the rest of the room!! (and just wanted to let you know i am so excited about the Sherwin-Williams gift card… it looks like i’m gonna start with a makeover in the boys’ bathroom while they are in the Bronx on a missions trip… picking out cool accessories now to surprise them… like mustache hooks!!)
Have a great day!
love white walls.. or do a color that contrasts the wood… ( maybe the complement of the undertone of the wood). Yes, please tell how you rehabbed the console… thnx
Vicki looks great and very classy! I love white walls…you can change the room a million times without painting the walls, just change curtains, furniture, wall pics, or whatever : )
I was really sad when you originally hid Vicki under that grey paint, but now I am delirious with happiness that vicki is back to a beautiful sexy wood finish. I am looking forward to seeing this room finished especially with the awesome velvet sofa and the great new rug. as for the white walls I like them so far – I am sure you will have more surprises with the rest of the room so they look just right.
So I just saw a preview for TLC Craft Wars.. Pretty sure I saw you!! If it wasn’t that’s too bad because it looks like its right up for alley.
I love it!!! The accents are great and I have a crush on Vicki. I name my works of art too! right now I’m working on a trunk Jerrard
I love Vicki all naked. She looks so sophisticated. I like the white walls, you are such a genius with accessories, they’ll be the main star now.
How cool that you are going to post a tutorial on stripping with a heat gun. I found an antique mantel that someone threw out and yesterday I was wondering how hard it would be to strip it with a heat gun and how to do it. I guess I will have to wait for the tutorial before I start on mine. 🙂
The white is my favorite, especially with the stripped version of the piece underneath. Clean, classic and insanely inspiring! Love it this way!
I don’t know the yellow wall is still my favorite!
Eh, I can’t say that I’m a fan of the new look. I really loved the yellow stencil and gray credenza. However, I’ll reserve final judgement until you show us the finished room.
Oh I love the evolution! And I am really looking forward to the paint stripping post as it’s perfect timing for me- I’ve just bought an old white sideboard to strip back and i am going to need help as it’s my first restoration. Thanks in advance!!!
I’m not a fan of the white. I agree the TV wall doesn’t need to be a focal point. But white just seems ‘eh’ to me. But I’ll wait to see what it turns out.
Vicki looks amazing! So glad you stripped the paint and made her gorgeous! XXX Suzanne
Is it weird that the first thing I’m dying to know is how you hide all your TV cords and cables? And yeah, amazing transformation, as always. I’m really diggin’ the new style of your living room.
