Hellooooo! I have good news, I didn’t burn my house down yesterday. It was a little touch and go for a minute but survival won out!! More details on that later.
I have SUCH a fun post for you guys today. I feel like everyone needs a little bit of Boho in their life, the problem is that there isn’t really such thing as a little boho. Its a fun and over the top style that has a few key ingredients. I’ve teamed up with Dash & Albert to help define this quirky and colorful style.
First things first, you know those freaky moments where you make a little wish and then it immediately comes true?! A couple of weeks ago I shared this picture in my Loft Living post and commented on the rug, because it is so good right? Guess what?
Dash & Albert’s Gypsy stripe rug, that’s what.
I feel like there are 5 main ingredients to capturing a bohemian spirit animal for your room.
.
Color. Lots of it. It doesn’t need to match it just needs to go. Choosing a main statement piece (like the Gypsy rug) gives you a massive range to choose from.
An Array of Ethnic Textiles. The more the merrier. I am beyond obsessed with this resist dot indigo pillow.
And speaking of spirit animals, I know that at least 84% of you are feeling like the Rhapsody pillow is yours. Its ok, I feel like we can all be spirit animal sisters about it.
I LOVE when the seasons change because HD gets a whole slew of new plants in, like this massive fern. A critical element of boho styling is at least one (usually more) plants that look like they might want to give you a sloppy kiss. Try mixing super leafy ones with cactus (just don’t really kiss those guys!)
Can you guys even believe that I found this bench at the thrift store for $25? Adding rattan to the space instantly gives you major boho street cred. Picture all of the elements with a streamlined upholstered couch, its just not as wild right?
With all of the happenings that are well, happening here, you’ve got to give your eyes a place to rest. I put the Ibiza Shale pillow front and center and the perfect white knit throw on the arm of the bench. It gives you a breather.
These fun products are a little more than what you would spend at Target or UO but the quality is unlike anything that I have ever owned before. Kind of makes me feel like a grown up. There are SO many other amazing pillows and rug patterns over on Dash & Albert, Pine Cone Hill, and Fresh American. Go check it out!!
Geez.. you got my number.
Dash and Albert Indoor/Outdoor rugs are awesome for bathrooms. I have one in each and will never go back to the weird, small, rubber-backed craziness. They hold their color, they stay put, and they are insanely easy to clean. Just don’t get one with a lot of white.
Not to be that girl, but, in the name of educating ourselves as design lovers and creators, maybe we could learn the names of fabrics instead of lumping them under an “ethnic” category. See : https://www.refinery29.com/fashion-prints-hawaiian-tribal#slide Perhaps then we could learn about the cultures that created these beautiful textiles, instead of the companies that misappropriated them.
I love this eclectic, collected look, I thought the same thing when I saw that descriptor. Reminded me of this article from a while ago. https://www.thejungalow.com/2013/10/the-old-tired-lazy-ethnic-label.html
First, we’re all having some fun with home decor, not assigning labels or reading history. Secondly, making the assumption that we all use the word “ethnic” incorrectly as it pertains to design and fashion makes you kinda sound like “that girl”
Thank you for the link Staci — Great article!
Judy, I didn’t know being educated about and sensitive towards other cultures meant not having fun. All sass aside, we’ve seen lots of examples of companies misappropriating iconography for their profit. The least we can do is name the textiles properly.
Yay! So happy!
I own the exact same rug shown in the first picture (no yellow). After a long wait it was delivered in early January. I live in Germany and bought it here: https://www.urbanara.de/3417/teppich-aonla.htm
They ship internationally, if anyone is interested. https://www.urbanara.co.uk/content/delivery
I love that rug. It is so fun, pretty and well made . I am very happy! (… and so thankful that my hub agreed to keep it for our living room since the colors are pretty girly.)
I LOVE the boho-southwest decor and use it everywhere…I LOVE patterns, bright colors, but I can’t keep a plant alive to save my life 🙂
Lol buy them at home depot. Save your reciept, you can return or exchange any plant (even dead) for a year! Just make sure you have the reciept and pricetag!
I love the boho, eclectic look and so does the hubs!! How lucky am I?! Our home does not look like our first apartment (no $$,we did the best we could), it is a more refined, collected look but still rockin’ the boho and eclectic flavor. I’ve been feeling the need for a change in our “visiting” grandchildren’s bedroom. The eldest of the 5 just turned 10 years old and it’s time we stepped it up a little. I always start a room with the floor and that means the Dash and Albert Striped Rug! Thx Mandi!
Love it! When I first started perusing Pinterest I pinned all these pretty, all white rooms that I thought I wanted. Then I realized that even though they may be pretty to look at, I would go crazy without color in my own house. That rug really talks to my soul!!! I am also crazy about plants, I may have a slight problem. One more plant won’t hurt, will it? My living room may look like a greenhouse. At least my air quality is pretty good. (I also may have a problem with buying afghans from the thrift store, but that is a whole other post ha ha)
Very nice break down on boho! That rig is pretty amazing. I’m living with a bright pink rug now and I’m not sure my hubby would go for much more color 😉 bit he’s being a good sport about my plant addiction!
I have a confession to make… I have a major crush on Dash & Albert. Love, love, love the colorful and fun rugs, pillows and throws. I am slowly collecting pieces for my rental cottages on Lake Erie. I like the idea posted above about using the indoor-outdoor rugs as bathroom rugs!
I love the rug! And I really like the use of the throw and pillow as a “resting place” for the eyes. Beautiful job!
I’m a plant merchandiser for a nursery, and make plant displays at home depots all over northern California . Honestly, theres nothing cooler than seeing some of these plants they bring in for different events!
“major boho street cred” that was so cute! That rug really does add life to the room.
These colors are adorably criminal. They are soooo amazing, it just makes you evil in a good way just looking at the vibrancy of that colorful rug. LOL. Good thing you teamed up with Dash and Albert. The decor is brilliance truly. Loved it all in fact. Amazing post.
Thanks, this is a really great article. Regards, IDProperti.com | Pasang Iklan Properti
