Remember last month when I posted about my MIL’s Staircase Makeover? It was the last little bit of space that needed to be finished up after the complete gut job that I talked about here.
And just because I love a good before and after in the morning…
Obviously the focal wall is the uber dark charcoal one (Iron Ore by Sherwin Williams), but the tone of other walls are just as important in making a space feel right.
Instead of going with an ultra white, which is admittedly my favorite wall color, we decided to go with Nebulous White a very light shade of gray.
So when we were working on the staircase that is what we used again, and I was reminded at just how much I love that color.
My go to paint for anything wall related is Sherwin Williams Emerald. I have been using it pretty exclusively for over a year and I LOVE it. The quality is unlike anything else that I have ever used (and I have used a lot of paint) One reason that I am so loyal to it is because of the scrub-ability. Dylan (my 4 year old) has an inner artist that just cant seem to be restrained to paper. The walls in her room have little bits of art all over them. With a typical paint line you need a higher sheen to retain the durability that comes with massive sessions with a Magic Eraser, but with Emerald Satin I have never had any of the paint come off the wall.
I am off to take pictures for the big reveal later this week, I cant wait to show you guys!
This post is written in partnership with Sherwin Williams, a paint line that I really use and love. I would never recommend anything that I didnt believe was the best!
This is awesome! My husband and I want to paint our living room in our rental a white or light gray. This would be perfect. It has to be better then the peachy color my landlord used! We also have blue carpet if that tells you the choices he made. I will be looking forward to having a place of our own someday.
We are painting our bedroom and study a super pale gray! 🙂 Winter white by Benjamin Moore. It is just the slit eat bit gray, perfect colour! 🙂
You’re right, that is a beautiful color. I have a question though, regarding grays. My MIL moved into a house once that had light gray walls. She hated them. They felt cold. Eventually we painted over them so that the house felt warmer. She hated feeling like she was being welcomed into a cold house. Merely for future reference, what would be your suggestion(s) for overcoming this with light grays?
XO,
Steph
That is such a great question Steph! I actually prefer a little bit of a cooler gray, the best way that I have found to combat it is to use elements that are really natural and warm, like the warm wood floors etc. I think that is just comes down to personal preference more than anything!
Thanks so much! That is a great idea. Immediately when you said warm elements, I thought of driftwood accents on a table.
Love it all! But I really love that couch! Could you please share what brand/style it is? Thank you!
Unfortunately Emerald is too expensive for my tight budget. I am in love with Gray paint though. The old renter in me just can’t do it. Even though I think it looks amazing in everyone else’s houses.
*Can’t do white*
Speak English today much? Ugh
So fantastic , can,t wait to see the reveal.
love your guts , too!
Do you use ultra white (non-tinted) white paint in your house? What color white do you use?
Hey Tristie!
That is what I use! You can add 3 oz of white pigment to help get more coverage. xo m
hi!! love your work!! i have a question about the dog pillow in the above post. is that something you made? if so, how???? thanks for all you do!
Mandi, could you post where you got things from in the room! I love the large scale white and grey print with the circles! Please and thank you 🙂
She got it from a consignment store, but I think it originally came from Pier 1! xo
Oh, Mandi, you SO make me wish we owned our home (instead of renting) so I could do what I wanted with it! Someday… Your blog is fabulous. Quick question- do you know where your MIL got that shaggy throw? I have been looking for something just like that. Thanks for all your great posts!
Hi,
I know this post is a few years old, so Im not sure if its still monitored. We are also doing one of our walls in Iron Ore and love the large white picture you have in your photo. Can you please tell me where you got it? I’ve done about 30 minutes of google image searching and cant find it. Thank you!
