Help On Your DIY Quest

By Mandi 02/06/2012

So one thing that I love about blogging is that it has such a big family community type feel. Don’t you guys think? Todays post is something that I havent ever tried before so lets see if it will work and if it does than we can do it more often!

You know when you are on the hunt for something super specific and the Thrift Stores and Craigslist just keep failing you again and again?

That has been the case for me with one particular project that I have been obsessing over since last summer. So I decided to ask you guys!

Does anyone in Southern UT have access to any old doors?

via

If you do, I would love it if you would email me! vintagerevivals AT hotmail DOT com. I NEEEEEEEEEEEED them!!

Ok now comes the fun part!

Is there anything that YOU are on the hunt for!? If so leave a comment in the following format:

WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR (as specific as you can be)

  1. I actually have 4 old doors that I have yet to use to create something else. I have good intentions, just not nearly enough time. My husband wants them gone. However, I am in Snowflake Arizona, a good 6 hrs. or so away I would bet. Sorry. I doubt you’d be driving through here anytime soon, but if you don’t find anything else and get really desperate…

  2. Sorry, no doors. 🙁 I’m looking for old shutters, if anyone out there has any. It seems like last summer there were a ton at consignment shops and stuff, but I haven’t seen any for awhile now. I’m in Utah County and my email is kasia{dot}johnson{@}gmail{dot}com.

  3. I have plantation blinds(shutters)- not the outside kind. I have been planning to do something with them for a year now…
I want an old piano, but one that works, not just for looks. I’m way on the other side of the US, on the East Coast.

  4. Have you tried a salvage place? I used to get old windows for craft projects from one.
Here in the Austin area, the Habitat for Humanity resale store…The Restore…has many doors, windows..all kinds of things from demolished houses. Is there one in your area?
    Hope that helps.

  5. problem is.. we are on the hunt for the same things (so how could I possibly let you steal such crap from me :P)! I’ve been looking for the right old window forever now! And old doors are always on my list

  6. I have been looking for an old church pew forever!! I am in Davis County,Utah but would be willing to drive to anywhere in Northern Utah, or maybe even further for one!

  8. Would you love to share your project, or are we waiting for the reveal? 🙂 You could see if freecycle.org has a section near you. Everything is free. You can post things you have or things you need. I actually got a few doors off of there about 5mths ago, hence the wondering of your great project idea!

  9. I would love some old type (wooden or metal) I have yet to find anything more than an “H.” I live in phoenix 🙂 -Kat

  10. No doors.

But I’m north of Boston and need 3 matching short filing cabinets made of any material. Or three matching night stands/end tables. 🙁 cannot find anywhere.

  11. oh girl I canNOT wait for you to do your door idea! Woot!

I have a door for you. I realize this is not helpful as I am in freaking SLC. You probably remember it in my trashy garage? You might not even want it but it is unique (old french door??).

  12. Hey! I’m in St. George (Sounthern Utah)

I am also in the market for an old door. I wan to turn it into a headboard so I’m looking for something symmetrical the whole way down. And when I say “old” I really just mean inexpensive.

I also am looking for a set of 8 clear cabinet knobs for a table I just refinished.

  13. I don’t have old doors like that. Well, in the new house we’re buying I do, but it’s kinda important (it’s the back door leading to side yard) and I don’t think we’re replacing it any time soon!

My area: Albuquerque, NM (willing to go an hour out in any direction)

Need: A 9 drawer dresser, low standing (meaning it’s three columns of drawers with 3 drawers in each column). All the drawers must be there but can be ugly. Preferably real wood and not covered in veneer but will consider all options. I have been looking for a dresser like this for a YEAR and never found one I like or an affordable one.

Contact: something_amazing(at)live(dot)com. Subject line: dresser or else I may not open it. 🙂

  14. AREA: Snowflake Arizona – willing to drive an hour in any direction

LOOKING FOR: Credenza, Buffet, or Wide Dresser that isn’t too pricy

  16. I have four old doors sitting in my back yard waiting for me to create something marvelous with them. Free old doors are all around me – wouldn’t it be cool if we could do a swap meet someplace central and trade goodies??? in my dreams…

  17. Cool idea!

I’m in the suburbs of Kansas City & would drive anywhere in the metro.

I’m looking for a few small sections of beadboard. They don’t need to be terribly wide, just at least 4′ tall.

    Thanks! ~Lori

  18. I don’t know about Utah, but in Colorado the free section on Craigslist always has free old doors popping up! Maybe you could try KSL, I heard it is better than craigslist in Utah. I don’t know if that applies for the St. George area though…I guess it is worth a shot! Good luck!

  19. I am in the Denver Metro area, specifically Highlands Ranch, co looking for a dresser, really detailed or mid century modern dresser for my nursery that i can refinish. contact me at [email protected]! thanks!
LOVE old doors, wish i could help you out 🙂

  20. I’m in SLC, but willing to drive to St. George or north to Ogden (We have friends/family in both directions)
I’m looking for a few things-
–An upholstered chair, not a wing back, to reupholster, so it doesn’t have to look great.
–a small pedistal table for my entry
–starfish- I know this sounds silly, but they’re SO expensive to buy here and someone must have a bunch that they want to get rid of, right?

    Thanks! [email protected]

  25. This freakin’ rocks! Why didn’t I think of it? Because I’m not Super-Mandi, that’s why!
Two things I’m on the hunt for:
1)a couple of those large reels. the ones used for electrical wire stuff. wood and in good shape.
    2) a tall metal school locker. I would love an old one, but anyone in good shape would do!
I am in Utah County. [email protected]

  26. I totally have access to TONS of old doors. Different styles, colors, with windows, without, chippy, not chippy, you name it. Unfortunately I am in Castle Rock, CO. If you are ever my way I will totally hook you up! I just bought 2 for my shop the other day.

On a second note, I would LOVE to find an old church pew… how the heck do you spell Pew???? Anyway, you know what I mean. [email protected] in Colorado.

  27. I’m in a suburb of Kansas City also, and I have some beadboard scraps but none that large! I’m looking for quite a few things!
-a tall wood bookshelf I could paint white or black that either has low cabinets that have a unique modern cutout design in the wood or open sides that have a geometric pattern or cutout
-a wood desk with a mid century modern look that would accommodate my husband’s desktop computer that he won’t part with! 🙂
    -large ornate frames
-an old electrical wire roll (on wheels?)
-anything to go in my son’s camp themed room

  28. ReStore is a definite source. I am in Ohio but I found two 8 foot tall glass french doors from an old homes sunroom for $10 each and a mirrored door to use as an oversize mirror for $1 plus my whole antique shop space is lined with doors from Habitat ReStore. 1 to 3 dollars each. It looks like there is one in your area. I am betting you find what you are looking for plus lots more, haha. Love this concept by the way. We are all salvage nuts so bartering is the way to go!

  29. I have 2 solid wood paneled (I think 6) doors that someone can have if they want. Denver, CO. Nikiley1 at gmail dot com

  31. Mandi, I NEED those canvasses out of your living room if you ever decide to get rid of them. I am sure it would’nt be hard to make them for myself, but so much easier to just take yours…hahaha. I live in Pocatello, Idaho but I have an aunt that winters down your way. i think your awesome by the way!

  32. I was just looking online for a yellow plastic cinnamon sugar bottle. I think Domino Sugar made them. They were very popular a few years ago. I have seen the royal soldier one on etsy, but not quite what I wanted. My 30 year old son mentioned the cinnamon sugar bottle we had when he was a little boy. I would love to surprise him with one.
