I almost forgot to post this project!! (Cause I am awesome like that) Actually I almost forgot about it completely….
This is kind of a long story post. I hope you enjoy learning about the madness that is my brain.
A few weeks ago I was set to guest posted on Crafting With The Stars. I was so excited to be back on my old stomping ground and excited to show of my coolest project to date. The wonderful {Vicki} My post was due to Tam on Monday. So I had my post done and ready to go Sunday at midnight (cause I am awesome like that) sans pictures cause I needed some good lighting. I was going to hurry and snap the pics Monday morning and send it off.
Here is the problem. I didn’t love Vicki. It just wasn’t quite cool enough. Now I know what you are thinking. “Mandi are you out of your mind? Vicki is the COOLEST piece of furniture to date!!” Well Vicki wasn’t originally so awesome. Here is a pic of what I was thinking I wanted. Remember the rule at Vintage Revivals: Don’t you judge my messy house!
I sort of have ESPN when it comes to my house. I have a routine, and its sort of weird and you might not love me after I tell you about it. Once I have been working on something for a little while I walk to the opposite side of the room with my head down. Then I close my eyes and turn around. When I open my eyes I get a gut feeling, If its not a good one then I know that no matter what I do the project isn’t going to work. Just believe me on that one.
But I just kept truckin. And even though I was bummed with how she was looking I had a deadline.
Then Sunday night my MIL said “It would be so cool if it had mirrors in it.”
Death.
I knew that is what had to be done to do Miss Vicki justice.
The mirrors would take 2 days to cut. So that meant that I had to come up with another project STAT.
There was this awesome table at my MIL’s that she found at the DI for $10.00. I sort of hijacked it and re-did her basement.
This is a picture of the space before (well sort of. I had my adrenaline going and already carried the table outside….by myself and I wasn’t bringing it back in for a lousy picture.)
The color that I used was Rustoleum in Blue Slate. I was super impressed with the coverage.
p.s. Look at this awesome idea I came up with for painting on grass! I had 2 primer lids and 2 paint lids and no grass marks!!
I have been wanting to glaze something white FOREVER. So I used some basic White Decoart Paint that I had and mixed it with their Glazing medium. I love how it turned out. You can see my glazing technique{here}
I love how it turned out. And for a 3 hour project its not so bad….
Mandi – I love both projects and am actually going to attempt the table this weekend. Question @ your white glaze though, could I mix a glazing medium (what brand do you use?) with any white paint that I have on hand??
Thanks!!
Girl, I love that color. Love. Tempted to start smathering it on all my walls. It’s that soothing.
I think I might need to go check out your glazing technique, as I am a little “glaze challenged”.
As always Mandi, I LOVE IT! FABULOUS!
The table looks great with its new paint job! Love the glaze 🙂

Mandi-love love love your site! And I have to say, that I do the exact same thing when I’m working on something-walk away and take a look from the other side of the room and wait for the gut reaction. It really sucks when its not good and I’ve been working in a frenzy:) I’ve used a beige glaze on darker furntiure, but I’m loving that white on a bright color! Great job!
Oh Ive never seen a white glaze before :0) It looks sooooo good on the new color for the table.
That color is so pretty!! Love it!
Please come over and enter my giveaway!!
Thanks!
Amy
P.S. your ‘{Here}’ link to see your glazing techinique is not working 🙂
Love it! I have a question though, Mandi-licious… do you primer first? With those turned legs, I would imagine sanding the table would be a bear. I have a sercretary with tons of curves (furniture, not a lady!) but I want to paint it a new color to give it some life. I do not, however, want to sand it because that would take forever and make me stabby. I doubt I can get away with that though…
i have a frame that im dying to glaze white, nevr seen it done before this!
hi there! im a new blogger and just stumbled upon your blog and L-O-V-E it! I’ll follow ya! xox!
I love it. Your mother in law seems like a smart lady! XO
Mandi, Vicki is very much improved! And I do that same trick, walk away and look at it and think what is my first impression!
can i say I’m jealous of these other comments. MANDI (and vicki) are MINE! (now the rest of the people who leave comments are going to think i’m nuts…I’M NOT NUTS! and you should rename vicki heidi….you know why!
You are just too cute. I love your writing style…and your projects of course! 🙂
I have so much fun reading your stuff.

Now I have to find something to glaze with white immediately! Well, maybe not right now, but soon! I LOVE the table!
Your (here) does not work. Can you please share more info and your technique for your table? Mine needs to be redone soooo bad. I have been struggling with what to do for a long time. This is absolutely it. You are a genius. Thank you in advance.
i LOVE it! i’m planning to paint my kitchen table soon…did you cover it with something? like with a gloss or something so that it could be wiped down a lot? i’m not sure what to put over mine after i paint it..tips??
Oh no!! Its so cute and I love it, but I’m torn because I hate it when a nice piece of hardwood gets painted. I just rescued a table just like that from Craigslist for $50. It was all stripped and bare so I sanded it and filled the cracks with putty and stained it with danish oil in walnut color and it looks AMAZING. Of course I needed a dark table to contrast my crappy kitchen cabinets that I’m painting a sagey green- (don’t judge me I saw it on pinterest and it looks awesome). And the walls are a boring beige, so an old dresser will be stained dark and become my kitchen island and my table is now awesome. PS Have you ever used Restore A Finish on a piece like that with minimal nicks, scratches and watermarks? I did an amazing job on an antique Craigslist table that I thought was beyond help. Its my new $12 best friend.
i want that wall art. I also saw it in your MIL living room re-do which is my fav re-do you did. I tried re-creating it in a triptych wall art thing because of the height of my walls (that was rectangular) Also becaue that was the canvas I had. – BIG FAT FAIL
