Holidays always throw me off. Lets pretend today is actually Monday, that way when its Friday it will be like finding $20 in your coat pocket…
I feel like at least once a week I start off a post with “If you’ve read Vintage Revivals for a while….” and if I haven’t guilted you into it yet, you should know that is LITERALLY one of the biggest downfalls that I have, I assume that you guys know everything Vintage Revivals (even though in all reality I know that you don’t) So there is that tangent for you…back to the point.
I have been learning and DIYing my way from complete nothingness (I was a spray paint virgin when I started the blog, if you can believe that!) I LOVE learning new things and don’t love repeating projects/colors etc. because its just so much more exciting to try something new!! So that is what I have done for the last 2.5 years. I have fought to try new crap on an extreme basis. Extreme to the point that my house has been a bit like a crazy schizophrenic. Each room was its own entity and didn’t really tie in to each other except for the fact that I loved them all at some point. I can so clearly see the evolution of my esthetic from room to room, which explains the constant need for change.
But as I am typing this post from my couch something (or should I say some things) make me very happy.
I found this awesome (then brass) chandelier at the DI (Utah’s version of Goodwill) for $15.00. And wanted to do SOMETHING amazing.
So I spray painted it purple and hung it in my entryway. For a year and 1/2 it has been the lone purple soldier in the sea of rainbow happiness that my house is becoming.
Now after almost 2 years I have found something to tie my kitchen to my entryway (something I thought might never happen).
On Black Friday Rugs USA was having their infamous 75% off sale and I scored this over dyed electric plum rug for next to nothing. And how about that awesome table? Huh? Tutorial coming soon!!
So basically the whole point of this post is to tell you, that when you are fearlessly discovering your true style, don’t be concerned if things feel a little disjointed for a while. As long as you love something it will (eventually) come full circle and you will appreciate it all the more.
LOVE the table – I’ve been trying to decide on a design for one for my house (I have a large piece of structural glass to use for one). Great inspiration piece … hopefully your design adhd will help my design paralysis.

I’ve only recently discovered your blog through the Homies (where have I been for the past 2.5 years!), but I’m loving catching up on all your past projects. This post is so true, we’ve been in our first house for under a year and I have so many ideas and colours I want to use.
Lets see when did I start reading/stalking you. Well I clicked a link from a party about creating a faux fireplace. Uh huh. But it was your real life story that sucked me in! Ive been on the lookout for a candelabra chandelier ever since you shared thay sweet thing!

Such a true post. I am still in the process of beginning to decorate my home I purchased in November and I am nowhere close to being finished. And after reading your post, I now know that it’s okay. That I will probably never be completely finished and there is nothing wrong with that.

Style evolution is such a good thing and you are BOLD girl…which is what it is all about. I found your blog the day you posted your first project and have loved watching your style, writing, and voice come in to full light. You are an inspiration to all of us who are searching for our OWN voices (through design, writing, etc). This is what we should all strive for. Thank you!

I totally agree, and I think that mindset is what gets us out of the “buy it because it goes” mode and into the “buy because we love it” mode. If we love it, we will find a place for it, and make it feel at home…or buy something else that goes with it later on!

Your strategy for home decor makes perfect sense, and it also works as a life philosophy. If we can just find the courage to do what makes the most sense in any given situation, even if it seems odd, someday, somehow, our experiences align and link up…suddenly, it all comes together. Thanks for making this important observation.

I love the dark paint on your eating area walls! The rug compliments the wall color perfectly. It’s so fun to see all the fun things you add to your house to make it a home.
I thought as I was reading you were going to say that the purple is on it’s way out…rug works great! Don’t you have to sweep your floors a thousand times a day in the kitchen? So depressing, your kids aren’t apparently as messy {embarrasing}.

I bought that exact same rug on BF too and my house is also a sea of rainbow happiness. Great minds 🙂
With ya on the rainbow happiness. A few years ago I spent a whole day making a dahlia stencil with an exacto (too cheap to buy the $30)and painted one wall of my entryway lilac and stencilled 5 dahlias in violet. That’s the only violet. Touches of red in the B/W living room and an orange wall in the stairway. But I still love it! BTW – that old lamp with personality… I wouldn’t paint it. If you’re getting the happy vibe from it CUZ OF it’s history, don’t bury it under spray paint. We all know you COULD, the trick here is NOT TO.
