(If you are new to this series I am redecorating my daughter’s bedroom. Check out this post to see just what she wants)
Finding the perfect palette for a sassy 4 year old is hard work. If it were completely up to Miss Dylan her room would end up looking just like Punky’s.
And as much as I adored that room as a child, its just not quite what we (meaning me) are going for. So I took Dyl (and Aggie the Bulldog) on a trip to my local Sherwin Williams to pick out paint colors.
For a little girl that is told every time we go in, to not. touch. the. paint. colors. she was in HEAVEN when I told her to pick out her favorites. (In the first picture you cant see it but she was tapping her chin saying “Hmmmmm”)
The first color that she chose was a bright barbie pink aka Dragon Fruit. I was NOT surprised at all. Next was the Mandarin Orange. Those two colors to me sort of dictated where the colors went from there. I pulled swatches that I liked and let her pick her favorites. And finally with a little guidance she ended up with these colors. She was obviously extremely excited about it.
So friends, this is our palette for Dylan’s Dream Room. Its not too girly but still girlish. Its happy, and imaginative, and sort of makes you want to merrily skip in a circle. We (yes, both of us) LOVE it. I have coined it Citrus Spectrum.
The colors are all Sherwin Williams and from left to right are (beginning at the top) Pink Moment, Mandarin, Gambol Gold, (Second Row) Eye Catching, Citronella, Bagel, (Bottom Row) Gladiola, Dragon Fruit, Confident Yellow.
Oh and I should probably introduce you to Adam. This is Dylan’s new BFF. (I love her little foot that she moves and wiggles when she is shy or excited.) She was telling him that she wanted her room to be pink with puppies. (and no Justin Beaver)
I cant wait to show you guys how it all came together! I think that Dylan’s room is my favorite project that I have ever done. And THAT is saying something. So make sure you check in on Friday for the entire room reveal!
As for me I am off to Salt Lake for SNAP! this weekend!! Can’t wait to see some of you there!! xo

I can’t help but notice she chose colours that match her outfit! Her favourites, obviously 🙂

Oh good gracious alive, is she her mother’s daughter! That expression is priceless! Can’t wait for the big reveal. 🙂
awesome color choices! I can’t wait to see what you do with the room. Also I love your daughter’s name! We have girls named Logan and Jentry (typically boys names).
There’s a little bit of Punky in Dylan! I let my eight year old pick out her wallpaper years ago. It was painful and I didn’t really care for her choice, but we went with it. Still there and she is thirty two. Looking forward to the continuing saga of this room! Ann
She is too adorable! See you at SNAP!
Omg, Friday can’t come soon enough! Can’t wait to see what you’ve done this time. 🙂
Fantastic palette! My daughter is 17 and we’ve redone her room several times and it’s always my favorite project. Have a blast!

OK, MANDI, I just voted for your lamp, fabulous girl! Now, I DO FEEL like a stalker, AS YOU’VE ENCOURAGED! I’m a big fan- so I’ll share with you what I wrote on the homes-page on fb: I LOVE THE LAMP! VINTAGE REVIVALS IS ONE of the only blogs I subscribe to, but I do check out others occasionally. Funny, after speaking w/ a few GF’s- seems we all think we are probably “the most creative person we know” (each one of us) then here comes Mandi from Vintage Revivals :~) Not bias either, she doesn’t even know who I am, nor do I know her personally. All I know is that I always get a smile on my face when her email arrives in my box (& I just don’t appreciate email at all) It’s like a getting a great hand written letter in your mailbox amongst all the printed bills ;~) Another great thing about Mandi is that she really only post’s pages that are relative, instead of feeling like she must always be sending something out- which is nice…(OK Mandi- so that was it! You keep going- You’re making a lot of people happy!) signing off but staying tuned, Julie
she is pretty much the cutest thing ever! i can’t wait to see her room!
and i’ve been mulling over colors for baby girls nursery (i don’t know that i’m actually having a girl yet, i’m just getting ready…. ;)) and i wasn’t going to go pink at all….but you (and Dylan) may have just changed my mind.
Oh my God, how cute!! I don’t usually post comments, but you kid is worth it! Lovely girl! you idea is the best! I’m following your posts, my boy is 3 and I wanna learn how to do that dream bed room! =)
That’s a great palette! I painted my kitchen cupboards in Dragonfruit a few years ago and I think it might be time to bring in some other citrus colours. Thanks for the inspiration!
OVERDOSING on cuteness! I can’t believe this is your favorite project- you’re making it hard to wait until tomorrow.
I’m new to your blog and really loving it! I laughed so hard at “Justin Beaver”…my son and my neighbor’s daughter call him that too! LOL
