Happy Tuesday you guys! How are you surviving summer? Things have been so good and crazy over here. We’ve had volleyball camp after volleyball camp for Ives, we’re getting geared up for the renovation on the Merc to start, and trying to not die from evaporation in this ridiculous heat.
As some of you know, my in-laws have been building the last (almost) year. Its been a cool process to be part of and we’ve learned so many great lessons along the way that will help us with the Merc (I can’t wait to share them with you!) They are almost done with the build and I thought it would be fun to show you guys what the house looks like right now before its cleaned up and decorated.
The style is casual modern with loads of monochromatic finishes.
Isn’t it so pretty?! My favorite part is the faux wood on the exterior. You’d never know it was metal, except that it requires zero maintenance.
The inside is just as good.
The railing for the stairs has since been installed, and the brick on the fireplace still needs to be painted.
One of my favorite parts is the master bath/closet. The tile is so good and if you can believe it I’ve got a secret source that sells it for HALF the price of most companies. HALF. I’m spilling the details tomorrow so hold on for one more daaay (Wilson Philips always!!)
The laundry room is freaking amazing.
There’s a nice big family room upstairs, perfect for all the grandkids.
All of the tile and finishes are just so good.
They’re hoping to have it move in ready in the next few weeks and I will share ever detail and source room by room once it doesn’t look like a dirty construction zone!
Oh my gosh that is gorgeous! Pretty much my dream finishes. Houses like that are so hard to find here in Kansas City.
Same here Emily, thats why they built! Its definitely not typical southern Utah!
Emily, I hear ya!!! Kansas City is so tough for real estate!
Emily and Kylie…YES! We built last year and builders just aren’t doing this style here unless you’re working on a true custom home!
Beautiful Home. Come to Austin, TX – there are a lot of places like that here, but they aren’t cheap.
This is a beautiful home! Do you know who makes those metal faux wood siding? They seems like the best of both worlds when it comes to looks and low maintenance!
I’ll find out, I know that they were looking at a few different ones!
I want to know too. We are redoing our exterior this summer as we build a two-story addition. I’m having a hard time finding the right faux wood. Different companies use different materials but I can’t seem to find the right thing I’m looking for. I love your parent’s modern design. That is totally what we are changing to. I even stopped by the local Burger King yesterday to talk to construction workers to find out their materials because they are using the modern and faux wood design too. My husband thinks I’m crazy. He doesn’t want our house to be inspired by a Burger King ? but it actually looks beautiful and contemporary. Can’t wait to see more details about this home and yours.
I would love to learn about the metal wood siding too when you find out!
Simply stunning! Absolutely cannot wait to see the rest!!
Haha…I’ve been watching the wrong house be built this whole time thinking it was there’s.
Theirs!
Wow, that laundry room! Why do they need two washers and dryers?
this is also my question? Why two washers and dryers? 🙂
Great question! My FIL does a lot of the washing for the restaurant at home so one set is for normal clothes and the second set is for yucky restaurant towels!
It’s basically my dream to have 2 washers and dryers!
It’s my dream to have a laundry gnone who does it for me but no one knows and just wonders how I get it alllll done, folded and put away (PUT AWAY?!?) without complaining or really anyone noticing.
In my dream I have a dinner gnome too.
Absolutely gorgeous. We moved from our MCM dream home in the LA desert to Denver last year for my husband’s career… and the housing market here is killing us. I think we’ll have to build to get what we want. Everything midcentury/contemporary has been flipped horribly or is way out of our price range This is super inspiring – I’ve been so down about our housing options lately! Thanks for sharing!
Hey Jess–have you looked in Lakewood? You might find some untouched options in the neighborhoods west of Sheridan or even one around one of the few smaller lakes in Lakewood. Look just north or south of Jewell–check out the houses around Clairfield reservoir (W Colorado Ave) and Wolcott Lake.
Beautiful! Love the metal finishes! We live in theNortheast where most homes and yards have trees – a bit odd to see someplace with no trees in view- will they be planting? Would love to see updates on landscaping! This my seem like an odd/naive/silly question – but who do homeowners like this of for shade in the yard??
Former desert dweller here – sail shades, covered porches, etc. Shade type trees are very difficult to keep alive in the southwest. Accent trees like olive, pine, pepper and palo verde are pretty common. Shaded areas become an architectural choice as opposed to a landscaping choice!
What Jess said! That is such a great question!! Trees don’t really natively grow here, especially shade trees. They are landscaping with cacti and rock and have 2 really cool porches in the backyard for shade!
I think I would go into depression without trees. ? Ohio girl at heart.
I don’t think I’ve ever loved a home more than this!
Stunning! I love the lighting fixtures especially.
Where is the refrigerator? Anxiously awaiting sources!!!!
Its on the far side of the kitchen sort of by the stairs!
Gorgeous! They did good. 😉 Can’t wait to see it all dolled up.
So so pretty. That stone exterior design and pattern is gorgeous.. Is it real stone or veneer? If they would be willing to share who did it, I would love to get in contact! I hope I can afford to do ours like that haha! It’s almost all of the same materials and colors I’m trying to design & use for our little Moab house we are in the process of trying to build and this is so helpful to see how it all plays so well together in real life! Thanks for the amazing inspiration in laws!!!
Its Veneer, I will get all the info rounded up, I’m happy to share the details!
Perfection
I need to know everything! The builder, the designer, everything!!
it kind of reminds me of Dana Willard’s home from MADE
I love her! I’ll have to check it out!
Absolutely gorgeous! Thank you for sharing this with us!
So gorgeous, but I’m curious about the textured ceilings- is that a regional thing?
Very much so. Flat finishes are very expensive, is it that way where you are?
Interesting. No, flat finish ceilings are standard here now (in VA.) No one really does textured anymore (my last house that was built in the 70s had them, but my current home, which was also built in the 70s, does not.)
Mudt know about by the wood floor!!
Me too!!
Wowzers!! I was completely drooling over that kitchen and the stairs!!! Love the flooring in that bathroom and walk in….perfection!!!
WOW Mandi! AMAZING! I love every choice! What stylish inlaws you have…. I’ll just say mine aren’t quite in that design league. Keep on sharing!
WoW! Am loving the fresh modern design! What is the plan for the the spaces in the sidewalk? Rock? Grass? We are planning to do something similar so it grabbed my attention.
That’s my dream tile!!! I can’t wait to hear the deets, as I have a bathroom I’m hoping to get the funds to create in the fall (right now it is a toilet in a mechanical room). I seriously had stomach flips when you said you have details about it being half priced!
Yes! That tile. Its exactly what i want…dying to know the deets!
Whoops, didn’t mean to leave my entire name on that last comment. Thanks autofill. I also failed to mention that this entire house is amazing. Simply gorgeous. They’re very lucky!
Awwww!!! I’m so excited for them. Did they build the shed and pool too or will those come in another phase? They are going to love this it is totally your MIL. I miss her so much.
Lovely modern lines. I don’t know the ages of your in-laws. I’m in my late 60’s and the open staircase without risers would scare the stuffing out of me…just a safety issue.
She mentions in the post that the pictures were taken before the railings were installed. I’m guessing it would be the same railing we see in the loft upstairs.
Beautiful home btw! All the heart eyes!
Nancy, I thought that as well but just below the picture she writes “The railing for the stairs has since been installed, and the brick on the fireplace still needs to be painted.”
Alisha & Clarence your inlaws? What restaurant r u referring to? Where is this beautiful house located? (Alisha parents were my neighbors, Alisha used to tend my kids!)
LOVE!!! You should share the floor plan I love seeing floor plans
Also this is why you need to be the designer on my house did you help pick out finishes! Either way you are amazing!
wow! that is beautiful! I can’t wait to see it all decorated!
Love it! Who is the builder? We are thinking of building something of a similar style in So. Utah as well!
I love it ALLL! It gives me hope for southern Utah haha. I love love love the exterior! And the interior is just as good.
Love their home, I live in Washington , Ut where is their home locatd
Holy. Crap. It is PERFECT. Wow wow wowwie. Those are the hippest grandparents I’ve probably ever heard of with a house like that!
I would love to know more about the faux wood too! We have this wood on the front of our modern house that has faded and deteriorated but is so high up that we would have to hire someone to maintain it. I would replace it with that faux stuff in a heartbeat.
Your in-laws have great taste.
It’s going to be a beaut!
Of all the amazingness in this house, I’ll ask a lame question…what kind of fridge is that? Man would I love to have a commercial one where the freezer is so huge! But where do you find a decent one for a decent price?
One other question…are the windows on the family and dining rooms picture windows or do they open? At this stage in our building process and now I’m looking at everyone’s windows:) The house is so beautiful!
This is beautifully done! Is it too much to ask for floor plans?! (Serious). Can’t wait for the followup posts.
That faux wood siding is so amazing. Please do find out who the manufacturer is!
The light fixtures!!!
Where are they from!?
THis is THE coolest home I have ever laid eyes on. What an amazing design!!!
Simply stunning! Beautiful finishes- the lighting, the tile, the stairs- gorgeous!
Holy Moly!! That’s would be my dream house too!!! So beautiful! God bless them!
Beautiful!
I would love to see a floor plan
This is fabulous! I love the combination of styles. It must be fun to have such design savvy in-laws! My own parents and my in-laws would not know what to do with this, haha.
I’d love to know where they got their fridge/freezer combo too. I have seven kids and five are boys—I NEED that! ? I also need double laundry machines, but my laundry room is in the dungeon with the furnace and water heater, so I can dream on with that one. ?
This is a dream! Please show us the outside view at night with all those lights in the eaves!
This house is so me! It’s nice to see other people out there with the same taste!!!! Maybe builders will take note and create living spaces for others who dream of living in a modern industrial warm home. ❤️
Hi Mandi! Where did your in laws get their pendant lights above their island? I want them!
Thank you!
Dayna Jamison
They are from West Elm!
Hi mandi. Do you know the paint colors on the exterior? The white body color as well as the dark trim? I am working on a house in palm desert and think this color combo could be great. Thanks!!!
I will find out!
I am dying to see more of this house! When?!?! Thanks for the riad source in previous post. I’ve placed an order with them and you’re right, customer service (and price) is amazing! Do you know what tile was used as a backsplash in this kitchen as well as master bath? I am in the middle of a reno and this is harder than it looks! So many decisions! Thanks so much! Love seeing what you’re doing. It’s all great!
