Heyyyyyya! How is everybody?!
Last week the Bremlin and I were down right lucky. We had the chance to fly our cute butts (well, his is cute…mine not so much) to Florida to tour the 2016 HGTV Dream Home with GMC. The last few months of my pregnancy + the first few months of new babyhood has made all travel come to a halt. So when the email came into my inbox to test drive the new Acadia and tour the HGTV Dream Home I was torn because I REALLY wanted to go, but new baby. Luckily Brooke and Amy were going too and could help me with the little guy so I said yes and man am I glad!!
I’ve never been to FL before and the constant and most reoccurring thought in my mind was about gators. Everywhere that there was standing water I could just picture one of those bad dudes hanging out inside. The local news in our hotel room was full of gator talk. Are you Floridians worried that they’ll jump out and eat you?! I felt a connection with Captain Hook that I’ve never felt with any other Disney character in my life.
GMC grouped us up and set us loose with a brand new 2017 Acadia. Dont you think that the thought didnt cross our minds to head home in that gorgeous thing. But alas, Brem was still at the hotel with my sister and jail didnt sound so fun. I picture a moat around it with gators for some reason….
The Acadia is amazing. There are so many features that really have safety and comfort at the forefront. Do you ever look at a new car and think to yourself “This is what actively learning and changing things over the course of the last 100 years produces?” Court thinks I’m super weird every time I bring it up. Its fine.
So lets talk about the HGTV Dream Home shall we?
You guys. It was incredible. This year, instead of building new, they did a remodel. Hello, can you imagine driving up this palm lined driveway on the daily?! HEAVEN!
The designer Brian Patrick Flynn did a killer job. So many awesome details! I think when you walk through a homelike this, or say, a parade home something where the owner isnt a part of your experience, you put yourself in that place. Would I do this? Do I like this paint color? Would I want the bed on this wall? Where as, if you’re walking through your friends house you wouldn’t really judge it like that. All of that word vomit basically means that maybe I wouldnt choose some of the things he chose for my house, but I can totally appreciate what he did and why he did it.
Most of the main space was open and bright. I loved the surfer wall mural in the living room, it added just the right amount of weirdness.
There were quite a few projects in the house that were definitely DIY (which I LOVED!) like the gray piece at the top of the stairs. You could bust that thing out with your scrap pile and a paint tester in a couple of hours. It made my DIYin heart so happy!
I will have transom windows in my next house. I LOOOOOOVE whole window/door situation.
Every wall in the kitchen area was covered with tile to the ceiling. It was a little bit magical.
There were 3 bedrooms with 3 different vibes.
The first was back in the corner of the house. It was mellow and had an antique beachy vibe). I am obsessed with the hanging rope chair, it is so perfect!
This bathroom had a giant swordfish string art that could totally be a DIY too.
The second bedroom was painted a shade of terra cotta. I was diggin the deserty vibes (it made me feel at home, and like there was a tad less humidity!)
The master suite was at the top of the stairs (it was the only thing on the 2nd level) and it literally glowed. The color was bright, the lighting was bright, the tent in the backyard that showed just outside the window was bright. It was just really….bright! My first reaction was that I didnt love the paint color. I really liked the space and furniture and everything else but the room color took a second to grow on me.
My favorite part of the whole house though was the exterior. It.was.incredible. The windows, the colors, the swimming pool, even the cute little dog house. It was just so charming!
Walking through the house was awesome, I have a whole post about the ins and outs of it coming tomorrow, as well as a profound realization that I learned, so stay tuned for that!
Oh so fun, Mandi! I miss your smiling face!
i think it is so lovely. i love the house exterior best! it has such great character.
I want to see the cute little dog house! Did I overlook it in the pics???
Stunning. I adore the mix of vibrant colors with light, breezy tones!

Oh my gosh! I’m totally going to DIY that string art. But instead of a swordfish, I’m gonna make it a mermaid… Uh huh…
