Meet My New Chairs

By Mandi 04/11/2012

I swore to myself up and down that I was NOT going to buy another chair that wasn’t part of a set. Well guess what? I lied. Technically I only lied twice since one of these chairs was free, so that makes it sort of ok right?

Having a few great chairs is the best way that I know of to make a room. It’s the perfect way to add some interest to the space without having to invest major money for a funky couch.

This first one is one that I just couldn’t pass up. It was $35 at the DI (Utah’s version of Goodwill). It’s a really deep teal (if you cant tell from the pictures) and is in really great condition. The leather is reallllly thick and heavy. Plus its TEAL! I mean sheesh, there is pretty much nothing I am obsessed with more right now than colored leather.

Blue Leather Club Chair

I got this sweet chair for free from my SIL. My MIL had bought it a few years ago from the DI (what can I say, thrifting runs deep in this family!)   I LOVE the mid century style, and it is SO comfortable.

The one super bummer aspect is that the leather on the back is in not great shape. I actually think that when I am ready, I will take it to an upholsterer and see if he can match the leather on the front because its in great shape.

And last but not least check out this tufted beauty.

Coral Tufted Chair

I bought this way back when I was working on Hailee’s Living Room. I wish that the velvet wasn’t in such craphole condition because I love the color to death.

Oh and it was only $10.00.

Have you bought anything fun lately?! Which chair is your fave?

  1. I felt the same way!!!

I just bought a chair as well. I couldn’t leave it.

Well I almost did, but a friend aggressively told me to buy it.

These are amazing…the first is my favorite.

    Mr. Goodwill Hunting

    1. I have to agree with Mr. Goodwill Hunting – the first is my favorite. I just about died when I saw that you only paid $35 for it. It is gorgeous!

  2. I love the last chair! There is nothing better than a great buy at the right price. I am in the process of decorating our entire house; so I have been adding lots of new stuff here and there. My recent and favorite is a giant round ottoman. Every time I walk by it my heart skips:)

  3. I have a chair addiction, too…your chairs are beautiful, and I love the red one just the way it is. I think the wear gives it character. Hallelujah for the DI!

  4. OMG, I love them all. I really do love the last one the way it is, but something about it is so British. I’d have a hard time not painting the wood shiny, textured silver and reupholstering the cushions in Union Jack vintagey-printed fabric. I know it’s weird, but I’m weird. Can’t stand how perfect that teal one is. Lucky girl. Gorg as always!

  5. I love, love, love the last one! And I agree…love the color red! I have two chairs in my basement and half a dozen in my garage to make-over. So, yeah. Definitely have a chair fetish! Jean

  6. I’ve noticed a lot of awesome chairs on your site (even that long row of chairs at your “hoarding sale”). And I love that green one that’s on your post about the refinished art from the thrift store. Have you always had this deep appreciation for chairs? 🙂 I wonder where it comes from!

    Love your blog. 🙂

  7. First chair is excellent. I miss DI!!! I used to live in Vegas and went to DI all the time. They’re amazing. I want them to open a DI here in Albuquerque. I’m so tired of these stupid overpriced Goodwills. 😛

  8. Def the red chair is my fav. Velvet. Red. Tufted. What more could you want?? I picked up some chairs on the cheap lately too! Gonna share on my blog as soon as I get ’em fixed up!

  9. Love love love the 2nd chair!!! You should send it to me! 😉 I just bought the coolest hanging lamp and table at the DI!!! Love that place. I started driving a half hour to the Centerville one because it’s less picked over and I’ve scored big every time!! I’ll post pictures as soon as they find a home in our house! (waiting to find out what the baby bean is to know if its going in the nursery or the other kiddos room)

  10. The first chair, the teal leather perfection, well if you EVER don’t want it anymore…I will gladly take it off your hands. But that last chair???? OMG!!! That chair is freakin’ amazing! I would try to find fabric that matches it to recover it with because that color is delicious. In fact, I would be totally tempted to leave the fabric as is (fix the popped buttons of course) and paint the wood to match the fabric, but really shiny. I am in love with that chair! You have the best chair luck. Congrats on your awesome finds!

  11. Score! I love your chairs. I’d lie too if I found crazy cool chairs like those. Last one is my fave. It’s a shame though, I absolutely adore the color.

  12. Man, your DI prices make me sick. My Salvation Army (like Goodwill) charges $200 for dressers, $20 for lamps, $50 for chairs. NOT kidding. Stuff sits in there for a long time.

  13. Please write a post on how you’re going to tie all these treasures together. I, too, have a chair issue, and end up separating them because I am not sure how to use them all together without it looking like I have no $$ and a chair issue (all true!)

  14. The Red Lady is my favorite! I am dying over those. I have been in a thrifting rut lately. Sometimes DI is packed with treasures, other times, not so much! I am stuck in the not so much category for the time being! Jealous over your goodies!

  15. I Love them! The first and third are my favorites, but number three is just amazing! I actually kind of like the worn look of the velvet, maybe if you refinished the wood the wear would look intentional. No matter what you do with them I’m sure they will all look amazing!

  16. Dear Mandi,
I live in Phoenix and am traveling to Hurricane tomorrow, coming back on Friday. Any chance we could meet up somewhere and go to DI together, Thursday afternoon around 4pm or so? I would love that, to meet Miss America, Mandi herself!!!! I love what you do, what an inspiration you are to all of us!!!

  17. The DI is like my most favoritest place in the whole world! was just there tonight and got that cutest little bunk latter to make something awesome with and more for a (why the heck did I get myself into this) sewing room makeover for my mutter

  18. I’m bitter. Where I live the Goodwill specializes in Walmart clothing, often more expensive than the clearance AT Walmart. Sheesh. And the furniture??? Total crap. Sigh.

Good for you though! The teal leather is my favorite, but I love them all!

  19. I like them all. I have a chair fetish too. I say paint the wood on the velvet one white or black and leave the faded velvet. put a cool fabric on just the back of the one with the tear. You could probably do it yourself with some cool brass nail heads. just my two cents.

  20. At first the Teal Leather chair appealed to me. it is a traditional Colefax style chair. That was until I scrolled down and saw that comfortable black button Mid Century chair – you had me there. It looks like a very comfortable chair. In fact when the leather has been ‘broken in’ like this mid century one, is when the chair is more comfortable. The teal chair does not look like one that I would be able to cosy up into and spend hours reading. That french style chair was the one that appealed to me the least. Seen too much of it around during the last couple of years, although it is a stunning classic. I like Brittany’s suggestion of ‘ trending’ it up a bit. Bring it into this century a bit more. However, amazingly enough it is the hot fave.

  21. So I was just visiting my little sister in St. George (I live in Iowa) and as we were driving home to her house one day I looked over and see this cute girl sitting on the driveway working on a dresser project. I about fell out of the car when I realized it was you!!! I didn’t want to go all crazy blog stalker on you and jump out of the car and hug you while you were scraping paint off a dresser so I kept my cool. I was trying to explain to my sister and brother-in-law who you were and they just seemed to know you as the super friendly neighbor who always waves hello. So next time you see my them cruising by in the Quality Heat and Air Conditioning work van, just know they know how totally cool you are now and don’t be surprised if I send my sister down to your house for some design tips! 🙂

  22. Love, them all, Mandi! The curvy red, of course is so sexy! The teal looks comfy, clean and TEAL alone seals it, as I am currently working on my bringing various shades of teal, turquoise, navy and kiwi into my LvngRm and, the black tufted is…oh em gee.. totes DOPE!! shiney, tufted, mid century. Southwest pillows or throw blankets and they would all tie right in!! jealous. Excite4d for our new FFA challenge(even tho Im not interesting enough to have a blog) I participate in my own thoughts and actions by finally decorating my lil rental apt here in Ohio.

  23. LOVE that last chair, so much character! I’d be tempted to reupholster the bottom with a contrasting bright velvet. Or, I’ve seen chairs painted that look amazing. I didn’t read through all the responses, but I did get to the one mentioning to use Union Jack fabric, that’s a fantastic idea and would really bring out its character! love the blog, so glad I found you!
    Bisous,
    Suzanne
