Sorry if that post title offended anyone.
So Stephanie the super nice producer at Studio 5 and I were conversing today via email. She told me that tomorrow they were doing a segment about wall stenciling and wondered if I would send in some of my during and after pics of my {seizure wall}! How fun is that? So, you will not get to see my smiling mug but…my wall will be a MOVIESTAR! Yeah wall!!
Secondly, I had an enormous amount of traffic hit my blog last week. I was shocked so I did a little investigation and found out that my {Tin Foil Nightstand} was featured on {LifeHacker}. I had never heard of this site before but their members have some pretty strong opinions that I thought were craziness. Here are some of my favorites:
I couldn’t agree with us more. “
-“Initial thought upon seeing the thumbnail view here on Lifehacker: Oh Goodness (edited for language)Â why would they make a perfectly good night stand look like an unlucky survivor of a nuclear attack? After checking larger images on the linked site: Oh, I guess it looks alright up close. If we’re gonna screw around like this I’d take it a step further and spray a nice sparkly gold over top the foil rather than grey paint
.”SPARKLY GOLD? What the french lady? You OBVIOUSLY are the go-to expert on what would make a perfectly good nightstand look amazing. Freak.Â
LOL! I LOVE the quote at the end of your page! I totally agree with that statment!
P.S. I loved the nightstand and have been on the search for something to use foil on! It inspired me!!

well poo on them! You are amazing 🙂
It seems they don’t like it because it’s trendy. That means you’re headed in the right direction. Blogs like this are all about what’s new in the decorating world.
Some people just like a plain old piece of furniture more than something that’s new and different, and those people are boring.
Ignore them, Mandi! You are fabulous, and while I’m a fan of Lifehacker, some of their readers are extremely critical. I agree: third nipple.
What!? I am in shock. Those people are nuts. I adore the nightstand. Keep on truckin girl.
Gee, although not my particular style, I think the nightstand is pretty dang kewl.
Haters gotta hate for some stupid reason.
Love the quote too!!
I just came across your blog recently but I promise it wasn’t from that site. I love everything I’ve seen so far!! I’ve already bookmarked some projects to do myself =)
I read the comments and got a little miffed at first too. A dig at you is a dig to all of us who are creative and resourceful and who maybe don’t have the money to slap down for a showroom living room or bedroom set. It was a dig to all of us who’d rather hit the thrift store and yard sales than Woodleys(a popular store in Colorado)to furnish our homes. But after I stewed for a little bit I said, “Forget them!” Those people are the type who sit around a “do” nothing but critique the work that others do. They’re the linear folks who wouldn’t know their way around the outside of a box. So don’t even let it ruffle you. Keep doing what you do because you are awesome.
P.S. I’m not hot and I’m not secure. But I’m cool!
Those people need to get a life!!! That was my favorite of your projects, and I never would have thought of it!!! Keep it up girly!
Somebody left a lecture/comment on my blog today about paying for images on etsy… super presumptive, and irritating!

Wow!! They are jerks. You know Mandi, they are just jealous they didn’t think of it. It seems like people that are insecure and unhappy have a need to belittle others. Really if you don’t like something then move on, life is seriously to short to waste time on being mean. You are AWESOME and can make anything you want look Fab!!
Hi Mandi, This post cracked me up! Hope I’m never discovered by LifeHacker! I LOVE your projects–especially the nightstand. And don’t worry about the Studio 5 thing (even though you DID deserve to win!). You’re on their radar screen now & you stand an EXCELLENT chance of getting an appearance. Maybe wait a little while & then e-mail the producer & say, “Remember me??”. It’s only a matter of time until you’re on. You’ll love it.
Warmly, Michelle
Oh. my. goodness. How ugly! Do they realize how much energy it takes to be ugly, and how easy it is to be nice?! That is crazy ~ I love your creativity and the nightstands in question. It takes time to stop & leave a comment, why would all of us have done so if we weren’t sincere? Mean people make me nutty 🙂
Well, I love it. And I’m guessing the third nipple rule definitely would apply to those peeps? As Jerry Jones says, any press is good press! 🙂
Well girlfriend, you know what I have to say about those buttholes. I’m so glad that you are seeing the good side of things– that your awesome project (which was absolutely beloved by the whole DIY blogger land) ruffled some (really really grouchy) feathers. You go, girl.
HUGS
Way to keep smiling 🙂 I like your tinfoil nightstand and actually just checked it out AGAIN recently to see “just exactly how did she do that again” cause that was cool.
Thanks for stopping by my blog to let me know about your giveaway (I’m Canadian, so a no-go), and a big boo to the grouches on Lifehacker. I think your table and technique were winners. Congrats on having your wall featured!
I was stopping by to enter the giveaway and read this post. In defense of your night stand, my husband (who told me that my totally awesome book wreath kinda looked like I wadded up some trash and hung it on our wall.) said it was cool. So it has got to be cool.
Those who can create, those who can’t tear others down.
well i loved the table! I told every one I knew about it!!! It is AM-A-ZING!!!
When I first started reading I was like “wow, how cool…they must have had some awesome things to say!” So I start reading in a positive voice then I get confused as I read and realize that they obviously have a problem with awesomeness. I absolutely ADORE that nightstand. I think you did an amazing job!!!
“Lifehacker”….wow, what a great name (insert eye roll here). keep it up Lady. Your project and your blog rocks!
Hey, they say you haven’t ‘made it’ until you start getting negative comments. So CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Seriously though, it was a darling project. Unless those LH fools as posting examples of their own work, fuh-get about it.
Wow that is RUDE! You just ignore all that nonsense and “keep on truckin'” because that nightstand ROCKED!
Wow, I had no idea there was a sight directly devoted to bringing people down. That is horrible! But as anyone in show business says, “even bad publicity is good publicity”. My experience? These Negative Nancies are just masquerading their mean comments when what they really are is jealous! You are a talented girl, keep it up!!!
I hate rude people. 🙂
wow! congrads! And I have no idea what those people are smoking!!!! I LOVE it!
The heck with them! You have figured out how to make a really cool project. You like it, it was challenging, you taught us something so we can make it in our own way. Ignore them. Those people are probably sitting around watching the worst of reality tv. Ann
Some people are SO RUDE! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the nightstand and just recently used your idea on an old table I had. It turned out AMAZING and I have you to thank for it… So THANK YOU! Keep your head up and be flattered that you’re creating such a buzz. The good comments definately out-weigh the bad:)
I’m a huge fan of Lifehacker.com.au and I often contribute, and I’m now a huge fan YOU too! My partner and I are attempting a bed side table using your method, we will send photos when complete.
In Lifehacker the site often features a showcase/photoshoot of an individuals home workspace and how it has been customised/individualised. I don’t expect you to post it to lifehacker but I really like your ‘taste’ and it would be great if you could post how your office/workspace looks here?
Please ignore the childish comments from some of the Lifehacker.com people – unfortunatly the site has computer related articles and is obviously frequented by pre-pubescent 14 boys, and every piece of furniture in their home is still owned by their parents.
BTW We live in Melbourne, Australia; I hope you got a ticket from Operh to come and visit?
All I have to say is that there is nothing wrong with having a third nipple! 😉 (learned all about it in biology class- it’s called a super numerary mammary gland) But anyone who has to say mean things to make themselves feel better well, they just suck!
