WARNING: Embarrassing real life pictures ahead!
You guys!!! Holy moly, how has it been so long? I swear the sweet smell of a new baby makes the world spin 15X faster than it did pre-baby. Its just the greatest thing ever and so intoxicating that I don’t want to do anything but hold him and smell his little neck folds.
But good news for everyone who is not within smelling distance of The Bremlin, Court and I managed to pull off a laundry room makeover in the last 2 weeks of December annnnnnd its time to start sharing it!!
I feel like our laundry room is similar to most peoples. Its little. Its dark (no natural light). Its often overrun with crap. Its not something that a lot of people see so it’s down lower on your DIY to do list. Who’s with me?!
Our laundry room is more like a hallway that connects the garage to the house and its functionality isn’t doing anyone ANY favors.
When we moved in we bought a stackable washer and dryer and threw up some cabinets (remember this is pre-blog when DIY was not a thing in my life.) The rationale was that if you stack them, then you’ll have more space to sort laundry and store things. .
SUCH A LIE.
Do you know what it did? It left big non functional spaces on either side of the washer and dryer that basically turned into a giant junk drawer for laundry and other household treasures. It was a MESS.
Also, I’ll be the first to admit that laundry isn’t my best subject as a human being so that could have been part of the problem…
Side note: They were stacked until about 4 minutes before these pictures were taken, Court is REALLY motivated sometimes and forgets about a real before picture.
Making the space more functional was the most important thing on the list. Actually I’d say functionality was tied with making it look awesome, because lets be honest, those cupboards? Bad. That paint? Bad. The linoleum? REALLLLLL bad.
I needed new floors, better storage, a countertop, and some dang personality!
All I can say is that its a good thing that Home Depot has everything I could possibly need to make it happen.

I would change just about everything, except the fact that I have one. Very thankful to have one! Mine needs new flooring (porcelain tiles have cracked after 20 years), paint is flaking off of some of the cabinets, the upper cabinet are set too high for my 5’2″ midgetness, the walls and ceiling are painted a shiny pinky beige, the lighting is industrial fluorescent , and there’s a closet and a European style water closet. But no where to put the dog bowls, except the middle of the room!
AAAAAHHHHHH! Let me see what you end up with!! I have those terrible wire hanging selves in my wash room and I am so desperate to get rid of them!!!!!
I’d take mine out of the dark and dingy and damp basement. Can’t wait to see what you’ve done.
I’d move my laundry out of the garage and into the house. It’s embarrassing how many times I’ve locked myself out of the house when doing laundry.
My laundry room is your laundry room’s twin, so I’m excited to see what you’ve done with it! It’s the last room in our house that hasn’t been touched by a paint brush.

Can’t wait to see it! I’m sort of in the process of renovating my laundry room (along with half of my house) as funds allow. My laundry room is big and has a window… But the way it’s laid out does not utilize the space! If I could totally change it, I would add a folding counter of some kind, built in storage (there is a nook that would be perfect for built-ins), and a sink!
Glad to not have to go to the Laundromat, but my washer/dryer is shoved in a dark corner of my unfinished basement behind our furnace. Sexy. Actually it makes me cry. There are no shelves. Or happiness. There actually is a rod hanging from the rafters my husband put in, but he did it wrong and it makes it so that you have a face full of shirts when you try to start the dryer. I will live vicariously through you m’kay?
I’d love to move my laundry room inside, even just to a closet. Right now it’s all the way out in the shed, but hey at least I have one right! So excited to see your big reveal tomorrow!

First, congrats on your family of five! I wasn’t expecting you “back” quite this soon and was trying to be patient waiting for the tutorial on the wooden animal wall in the nursery! And now you’re onto a new room! Will such a tutorial still be coming down the pike?!
I’m really excited on how this would look like after. 😀 Having trouble with the laundry room myself and is really looking for ideas. Planning to sell my house so i better make the most of everything i can do.
My “laundry room” is in the unfinished side of my basement. There isn’t even drywall up. Or a legit ceiling. And it’s on a concrete floor. I do have a counter though! And plenty of room!
We recently moved into our new home and our laundry is still not set up a week and a half later. The washer is, but the dryer has been a never ending saga. We bought stackable front loaders to fit into a small space in our “mud room” hallway. Cutting the hole for the vent took forever! I thought we’d already bought the stacking kit, but apparently we didn’t and now the hose for the gas is the wrong size. I’m hoping tonight is the night we finally get this thing finished!
I appreciate that I have a laundry room and not a laundry walk through. I love having a door to close it off from the rest of the house, however I do not have one bit of storage other than a high on the wall shelf. I need cabinets, color, and ventilation.
The best thing about my “laundry room” (which is really just a washer and dryer in an unfinished part of the basement) is that there is a laundry shoot from the bathroom above. I still have to schlep the clean laundry back up, but the dirty laundry always makes its way down! Of course we have to have a babylock on the little door in the bathroom, but that little shoot is awesome! It’s really just a cutaway between the studs with a little extra that sticks out into a closet on the other side, but it is genius!
My laundry room is currently in an unfinished basement. So what would I change about it? ALL OF IT!
How awesome! Can’t wait for the new look! We recently remodeled our laundry for the ORC back in the fall of 2015. Check it for some cool inspiration (I think you will love it). I saved tons by doing most of the work myself (except electrical). Enjoy!!! ??
I’d have one! However ugly anyone’s laundry room is, I’d challenge whether it’s worse than sharing it with a floor of strangers & pilfering quarters from friends & family to plug into the machines. I long to be able to “fluff up” wrinkly, stretched-out jeans in the dryer… To be able to throw a load in & forget about it without worrying that a “neighbor” is going to pile my wet clothes in a dirty corner (Bonus: I hand wash my pretty panties, so it’s only the free VS cotton panties that’d they find! Not cute! Lol).
I would just like one. I live in a 1000 sq foot ranch and the washer and dryer are right next to my kitchen sink! I seriously have 4 feet of counter space, 2 on each side of the sink. I so want a front loading washer so that I can extend the counter, but alas, my husband is soooo practical. Why would we replace perfectly functioning W and D for new ones? Haha , men. At least I have them though, unlike poor Mary B, I do not miss the days of laundromats and apartment laundry rooms.
We lived in a 1890’s house, we fixed it all up. But literally the basement where my laundry was, was a dungeon. No exaggeration. When we moved in there was a dirt floor in the basement, so we had concrete poured but it was still disgusting. We just moved into a new construction home 8 weeks ago and I have first floor laundry. I am completely delighted! It does have a window, and we got a really nice washer dryer which turns out makes all the difference. Laundry gets done in no time. I’m delighted. But I too want to fix it up and make it functional and gorgeous. My style is kind of modern industrial farmhouse. But part of me wants to decorate the laundry a light pink with a chandelier and like super glamorous and gorgeous. Bc let’s face it, I’m the only one doing laundry. Not sure yet though. I’m excited to see your reveal tomorrow and hope that it inspires me. Oh and ps I’m having my third soon too. He/she is due in a few weeks so they’ll be close to Brems age!
I love this! When we were doing our home the laundry room was high on my list! Keeping it bright and organized helps my mood when doing something I do not enjoy! Enjoy your amazing remodel!
Gorgeous. But what to do when the hot water heater is also there and is beyond ugly? It is not in a closet.
