RIP to the most offensive paint job to have EVER EVER existed. The stucco is finally on the Merc! Well, sort of. The brown coat is on at the Merc!
I can’t even begin to tell you how dang exciting it is to not have to drive up to cracks, and holes, and weird cutouts. We all know that the Merc has its quirks, but some of them are just a little too much for my heart to handle.
If you remember this is what we started with. One word.
Why.
Over the years doors were covered up, windows were downsized, new doors were added, and the paint job….I just can’t.
We all know that Courtney Gubler is near perfect. He’s a supportive husband, he’s a fun dad, he’s handy and is definitely the better half of this marriage. But Court Gubler has a flaw. One we’ve known about for a while, but has presented itself in all its quirky fullness during the Merc renovation.
Removing drywall dust from walls before you paint, is up there with the west jobs EVER. Its labor intensive, frustrating, and dirty. But I’ve got a trick that is going to blow your mind. It’s crazy, but it works.
When we were getting ready to paint, I reached out to my friend Josh (you might remember him if you’re a lifer, he’s the one that helped me paint the exterior of the Nugget). Josh is a professional painter and works for the most sought after company in southern Utah. So I called him and I was like “hey, any tips for removing drywall dust? Cause this stuff is a nightmare.”
He responded with THE CRAZIEST THING I”VE EVER HEARD.
This post was written in partnership with Travelers Insurance.
How often when you’re doing a project, do you think about how it’s going to affect the value of your house? Having been through the selling process fairly recently I was very onboard when Travelers Insurance asked if I would be open to chatting about the biggest (and most profitable) projects you can take on that will boost the value of your house.
We hear over and over again that kitchen and bathrooms sell houses. If you’ve ever watched a show on HGTV you’ve had this drilled into your head on every occasion, but just how much does having an updated kitchen or a new bathroom really increase the value of your house or increase its sell-ability?! Travelers breaks it down space by space (how great is it that they’ve done all the work and we can just plan accordingly?!)
Did you know that a kitchen refresh has approximately the same ROI percentage that a full blown kitchen renovation has? If your house is teetering on that line of maybe feeling a little outdated but everything still is in great working condition a refresh is in your future! That is where our kitchen was. The cabinetry and appliances were just fine, the colors and finishes however were a little outdated. We replaced the tile, painted the walls, and added a backsplash and it TOTALLY changed the entire space from outdated and grubby to clean and on trend.
