When My Life Changed.

By Mandi 09/10/2012

Today is one of the happiest dates in all of existence. Over the weekend we celebrated Court’s 2nd year of sobriety!! If you want more info on all of that check out My Real Life Story!

I am baffled and amazed at how drastically different my life is from the chaos and hell that it was exactly 2 years ago.

I am beyond proud of my wonderful amazing husband. He is the strongest, most grateful person I know. I am so blessed that I get to hear him share his hope with others a few times a week. I am grateful for these last 2 years but I am also grateful for the 8 before that. They have made us who we are and I wouldn’t change that for anything. I  am SERIOUSLY lucky that he is so freaking supportive when it comes to projects and blog stuff. Love you Lover!!!

The pain of addiction is ravaging, the destruction that it leaves in its wake is devastating, and the darkness is suffocating.

But there is hope.

So if you or someone you know is fighting (or not fighting yet) an addiction, don’t give up!!

Have a happy Monday, and don’t forget to vote for your favorite entry for the Epic Room Makeover (voting is SUPER close and there are some incredible entries!!)

Love Your Guts, Mandi

  1. Congratulations to both of you! I’ve read your story and it’s very inspiring. Congratulations on knowing that together you can fight this addiction. And also knowing that you’re both worth fighting for. This will always be worth celebrating!

  2. It’s funny how some people think our lives are so perfect or that we are super women because we’re Mormon. If only they knew, right?! It takes tremendous courage to share a story like that on the internet. I read it a long time ago, and I remember thinking how brave you are to open up and let your guard down. It isn’t easy to do, but in the long run, I am sure you are helping many people who are grateful for it. Maybe one day I’ll have courage too to share my story.

  3. Yay! My partner works with people who struggle with addiction and we have seen firsthand how destructive it can be. It’s such a huge accomplishment to celebrate year after year. So a big congratulations to your family! 🙂

  4. Congratulations! I think that you’re incredibly brave to share your story publicly, the way that you do, so that you can help other people. God Bless!

  5. Congratulations!! I am coming up on three years from substance addiction and also work a CoDA program like yourself. You guys are rockstars. For real. Thanks for sharing

  6. we can do what i can not…i commend you both…we have traveled the same journey…for a many 24 hours…it does work…when we let it…play well

  7. you two are amazing, I can’t wait to meet court, we need to hang out again. you said something in your real life story post that I think about nearly daily. “I learned that when I prayed all of those years ago for Heavenly Father to take Courtney’s addiction away why he didn’t. Not because he couldn’t, but because Courtney had to freely give it to him.”
That is so beautiful and so true and I love you forever for helping me understand the atonement just that much more.

  8. Isn’t it amazing?!? I, too, am grateful for the struggles my husband and I faced through his addiction. The heartbreak, pain, and despair left us raw. Who would guess that out of the darkness of that pit would grow joy and gratitude? If only more people knew that being willing to walk through the fire of life’s hardest struggles, with Gods strength to support you, would bear the greatest fruit of happiness and fulfillment. Perhaps more would be willing to try. Thank you for sharing your story. It is comforting to know we are not alone.

  9. I adore your blog, will continue to keep you and your husband in my prayers. I think JEN above said it ALL in such a PROFOUND way. Wishing Blessings for you,Court,Jen & her husband. GOD IS GOOD.

I read your story the other day. We share similar stories but with different outcomes. You are an amazing woman with an amazing husband who obviously loves you and your children SO much he wanted to change!
    Happy Two Year Mark!

  11. Love your blog. so happy it is now workign for you. we lost our nephew 3 years ago to addiction and he was a wonderful young men. best wishes and love your blog!

  12. Thanks for letting us celebrate with you! I’ve been through addiction with my husband as well. I remember vividly the very moment that was the darkest, most ominous moment in my life, when I thought he was so far gone that there was no getting him back, and my fear and guilt that I had allowed him to drag our kids and me beyond the point of no return with him. Leaving out the long story because this is YOUR moment – Today life is full of gratitude and fulfillment beyond what I ever thought could come our way again. He’s been clean and sober for four-ish years and ever so grateful to God for the opportunity to regain his life with us and we are grateful that he has rejoined us. Things will never be as they were, but the “different” that they are reminds me that we are tough, resilient children of God and I think that makes life now better. So congratulations – your story is unique but you are not alone!

  13. Congrats to both of you! Thanks for sharing your story; it gives me hope for my own. Blessings to your beautiful family!

  14. Found your blog through the Pleated Poppy Yarn Lamp tutorial…but clicked on the home page. WOW! My heart just went to my throat. I am going to read more but so so so thankful for 2 years of sobriety. My dad is 20 years plus but I remember the HELL that it was living with an alcoholic. Bless you sweet girl! And so thankful for his milestone. AND FOR HIS MERCY WHICH IS NEW EVERY MORNING!

  15. Wow, Mandi! I just read the story. Congrats on your healing. My father died suddenly 9 years ago, only one month shy of his 55th birthday, partly due to complications caused by alcohol abuse. Addiction is such a slippery slope.
I pray to God daily, asking him to keep my family members safe. He answers my prayers but not always in the ways that I expect. That’s what I see in your story too. You’ve been through hell but your hell might have been far worse had God not been there shielding you from total disaster.

  16. Congratulations!! I know how hard it can be. I am struggling with sobriety right now, but you give me hope and faith that I too will make it.
