Reclaimed Wood Amazement.

I know I still haven’t posted the tutorial on the mirror. Sometimes you hit a creative streak and just have to go with it. For those wondering my kitchen is fine,  I will willing subject myself to public criticism in a few days when it is all the way done and I can show you some sweet before, (not so sweet) during, and after pictures.

I have a pretty big window in my kitchen that I wanted to put something over. I don’t really follow super trends and gasp I don’t have anything with our families last name or est. year on it. Not that there is anything wrong with it if you do, its just not really me…..until today. Court’s grandma has a house that has just a bunch of stuff in the backyard like wood etc. I have been dying to get over there for weeks but finally made it last night. I got a few really old and weathered pieces and this is what I did with them….enjoy!

First I laid out my wood so that it looked like the sign I wanted to make (size, proportion, etc.) Then I got these letters at Roberts for $4.00 and laid them out on my wood. I n used painters tape and taped around them (which there is no pics of but you gals are geniuses so I’m not worried)
Next I really lightly spray painted with white. (again no pic, it was getting dark!)   Then I  shifted the stencil and sprayed it with Krylon Pumpkin Orange.
It actually looks better in the pic then it did in real life it was really light. I got some orange tole paint and painted the letters so that it had a good base. Then I sanded and resprayed with the Krylon. Then I sanded it and used a TINY TINY (did i say TINY?) bit of minwax Dark Walnut stain that I ever so slightly brushed over the letters.
I used another piece of wood to balance the name.
Then I had my muscle man of a husband assemble it.
He used some 1 x 4’s and drilled Pilot holes in for the screws. Blah blah blah and this is what the back looked like
Then I attached some wire and and here she is waiting to go inside.
Do you love it? Cause I do!
Don’t forget to enter the {giveaway}!

  2. Oh, hey Mandi. I have a very personal question for you…where did you get those round frames? I’ve been searching, searching and searching for some that don’t cost $$$$$$$$$ and no luck. Please, help a girl out!
